As the Inclusion Facilitator, you will be responsible for providing support to the Head Instructor, as well as Instructors, Level I & II, within a specific camp program. The Inclusion Facilitator will provide inclusion support to campers with special needs. The Inclusion Facilitator works as part of a team to ensure a safe, productive and enjoyable experience for all campers.

Specific Accountabilities:

• Ensuring all Covid-19 Safety protocols and Government regulations are being followed
• Provide support to the Instructors, helping to ensure that camp activities are inclusive to all participants
• Actively supervise assigned camper(s), learning their name(s) on the first day, and knowing their whereabouts at all times
• Foster a sense of community within assigned camper group where individuals care for/are mindful of one another
• Provide 1-to-1, or 1-to-2 inclusion support to campers with special needs
• Create programming to integrate campers with special needs into camp activities
• Communicate regularly with parents of assigned camper providing regular feedback about camper’s experience at camp
• Correct and redirect inappropriate camper behaviours
• Full and active participation in all camp programs where appropriate, based on needs of assigned camper(s)
• Follow all Appleby College Summer Camp procedures and policies, including Appleby’s Mutual Respect policy
• Participate in all required training related to Health & Safety
• Act as inclusion resource to all camp staff

Knowledge and Skills:

• Applicants for this position should have completed a minimum of Secondary School; and be at least 18 years old prior to the start of the camp program
• Experience working with children with special needs, children with behavioral exceptionalities
• Experience providing programming or care to persons with disabilities
• Experience working/volunteering with children in a camp setting
• Education background in Special Education, Personal Support worker (PSW), Developmental Services Worker (DSW) or Therapeutic Recreation considered an asset
• Any additional training in mental health first aid, crisis intervention, PSW, DSW an asset
• Excellent time management, organization & communication skills
• Team-oriented, motivational and creative
• Energetic and enthusiastic
• Bronze Cross and/or NLS certification in lifeguarding is an asset

Workplace Requirements:

• Successful candidates must attend the required training sessions from June 3-5, 2022 and June 18, 2022 for Camp Set-up
• As a condition of employment, both a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening and government-issued proof of full immunization against COVID-19 is required
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR – C (certified on, or after Sept. 2020) is required.

Appleby College Camps and Academies provide the highest quality of instruction to campers in a fast paced and challenging work environment. Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications.
