Who You’ll Work With

You’ll work in one of our Canadian locations (Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver) as part of our North America Human Resources (HR) team, with team members in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. You will work collaboratively with the leadership of other functions in Canada as well as other firm functions including people legal, immigration legal, payroll, talent management, recruiting and professional development. You will report to the manager of human resources for Canada.
Our Canadian locations include more than 700 consulting and non-consulting colleagues.

What You’ll Do

You will act as a trusted source of information and key point of contact for answering immigration questions.
In this role, you will also complete regular audits and analysis. You will adapt to and address concerns by applying a problem-solving approach to complex mobility and immigration issues in collaboration with the manager of human resources. You will leverage your expertise to protect the firm and firm colleagues from immigration risk, serving as a thought partner and escalation point for colleagues and leaders in Canada.
You will independently manage a variety of efforts, which may include reviewing and interpreting firm policies on mobility and immigration. You will also lead implementation and compliance efforts on these policies within Canada. You will manage risk to the firm by monitoring Canadian immigration law and related legal regulations for changes, interpreting and developing recommendations for implementation or modification of the firm’s approach and processes in these areas.
You will establish suitable filing strategies and provide counsel on Canadian immigration law to colleagues entering Canada as new hires, transfers and those temporarily working in Canada including steps required to secure work authorizations or other applicable immigration status in Canada. You will manage relationship with external Canadian immigration legal counsel, assigning and monitoring cases as needed. You will also work in partnership with colleagues on the Canadian mobility committee to review requests, facilitate mobility approvals and monitor approved transfer cases. You will also collaborate with internal legal immigration and mobility teams on matters involving multiple jurisdictions.
You will research and provide recommendations on engagement-related risk issues for client service teams on managing immigration risks, engaging with clients’ legal representatives as needed. You will enhance the mobility and immigration experience for colleagues through providing support to firm initiatives to review and improve internal processes. You will demonstrate high level of credibility in area of expertise. You will also renew your own knowledge/expertise regularly to remain at the forefront of your field as well sa drive innovation and new knowledge creation.

Qualifications

  • University degree
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Licensed as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC)
  • Understanding of local labor considerations
  • Ability to navigate the life cycle of events for colleagues, employee relations
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with a diverse range of people in a fair and consistent manner
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage ambiguity with an open mind and positive attitude
  • Evidence of sound judgment, professionalism, maturity and trustworthiness
  • Bilingual (English + French) if applying to the Montreal office
