The Company:

Our client is a highly focused, specialized team leading in contract manufacturing products for the Cannabis industry. With a core focus on product quality, consumer safety and innovation, they aim to continually set the standard in the cannabis product manufacturing space with unrelenting commitment to our employees, customers and partners.

The Opportunity:

The position is a senior management role responsible for the oversight of all functions of the company’s finance and accounting department and the development of financial strategic objections across the wider business. The Financial Controller will be required to work cross functionally across company departments to ensure financial objections are achieved, demonstrate strong commercial acumen whilst ensuring all compliance and reporting obligations are satisfied and financial risks mitigated.

Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • Maximizes return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.

· Responsible for overseeing the accurate completion of month-end close and preparation of monthly management accounts, in line with Group reporting timeframe (5 business days or less after end of month).

  • Full ownership of job profitability reviews with department leaders including variance analysis of costs to forecast.
  • Custodian of the general ledger. Ensure the general ledger is accurate and up to date with delivery of key reconciliations at month end. Overall responsibility for data integrity of the general ledger.
  • Main point of contact with local auditors, ensuring half-year and year-end reporting obligations are satisfactory completed and in-line with strict reporting deadlines.
  • Manage tax compliance process, including lodgement of income tax and SR&ED returns.
  • Continually monitor and forecast cashflows including reporting of month cash actuals v forecast to parent company.

· Process improvement orientated. Promote expertise and best practices for financial management.

  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors and parent companies.
  • Working cross functionally across company departments to prepare budgets by assigning responsibility, establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  • Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends upon request.
  • Complies with Ontario local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Supports capital expansion initiatives from all financial aspects, analyze options and provide quantitative profitability metrics of proposed projects
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
  • Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

· CA qualified, or suitably equivalent professional accreditation.

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in accounting/finance and in a Controller (or similar) role
  • Experience working within a manufacturing focus environment
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements of IFRS
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and legislation
  • Experience with cash management and risk assessment
