Birchcliff Energy Ltd. Birchcliff Energy is seeking a financial analyst to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, this position will contribute in all aspects of Birchcliff’s finance function including, financial reporting, taxation, insurance compliance, internal controls, treasury and budgeting and forecasting. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, flexible, enthusiastic and well-organized individual who enjoys being part of a fast-paced team.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

As a financial analyst, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assisting in the monthly financial reporting process, including (but not limited to) the calculation of routine and complex accounting entries and the preparation of month-end financial reports for management.
  • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly and year-end public disclosure documents, including (but not limited to) the financial statements, management discussion and analysis, sustainability reporting, press releases and various other annual filing documents.
  • Assisting company auditors during interim reviews and annual audits.
  • Assisting in evaluating the accounting, financial and reporting impacts of any new or amended IFRS Accounting Standards and the proposed Canadian Sustainability Disclosure Standards.
  • Assisting in the preparation and filing of various corporate information tax returns.
  • Assisting in the preparation and filing of the annual corporate insurance renewal.
  • Assisting with internal control compliance, prepare and/or update control process documentation and liaise with external consultants.
  • Assisting with internal budgeting and forecasting.
  • Assisting with special projects as requested including financial variance analysis, indirect tax and other reporting compliance requirements.

Education and Skills:

The successful candidate will have the following education, skills, abilities and attributes:

  • New or recently qualified Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
  • Minimum of three years of work experience at a mid-to-large size audit firm with audit client focus primarily in Canadian oil and gas exploration and production companies.
  • Strong technical knowledge of current IFRS Accounting Standards.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated experience in some or all of the following areas: (i) audit and assurance; (ii) internal controls over financial reporting; (iii) continuous disclosure requirements; and (iv) Canadian corporate income taxes.
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent organizational and time management skills, in order to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines.
  • Hard-working individual who is eager to learn and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail of financial and non-financial information.
  • Results-oriented team player possessing the determination to make a difference, balanced with the skills and patience to accomplish projects in a timely manner.
  • The ability to collaborate with a variety of people, both internally and externally.
