As Field Service Engineer – Remote, reporting to our Field Services Manager, you will have responsibilities within RST’s Field Services department for a specific remote project site. You will provide support to our customers in Northern British Columbia at a large-scale civil construction project. Our Field Service group is responsible for the technical quality and accuracy of RST’s geotechnical and civil instrument installations designed to monitor the long-term performance of a new hydroelectric dam structure. As a key member of this team, you must be customer focused, team oriented, organized, detail oriented, entrepreneurial, technically competent, and a self-starter. This role is Fly-In/Fly-Out – 15 days in/6 days out.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical supervision for the installation of geotechnical and civil instruments in drillholes, excavations and civil structures, specifically: vibrating wire and pneumatic piezometers, extensometers, inclinometers, ShapeAccelArrays (SAAs), settlement cells/plates, survey markers/monuments, temperature sensing cables, cable trenches, etc.
- Provide technical supervision of drilling, excavation and other construction activities related to the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of geotechnical and civil instrumentation.
- Prepare detailed documentation of the completed work, including installation reports, commissioning records, and as-built drawings.
- Preparation of installation procedures and execution plans for the installation of geotechnical instruments to monitor geotechnical conditions of surface and underground facilities.
- Carry out function testing of geotechnical instruments and data acquisition equipment prior to field deployment.
- Carry out manual readings of instruments and the downloading of dataloggers connected to instruments.
- Carry out data checks, data reductions, data interpretations and troubleshooting of data from various geotechnical and civil instruments.
- Assist the Project Manage/Engineer with on-site coordination and timely submission of project deliverables.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- Geological, Geotechnical, Civil, or Mining Engineering degree from an accredited Canadian institution or international equivalent.
- Registered and in good standing with EGBC.
- Minimum 2 – 5 years’ experience in heavy civil and/or mining construction environment.
- Minimum 2 – 5 years’ experience conducting geotechnical site investigations, with a strong background in geotechnical instrumentation such as piezometers, inclinometers, thermistors, extensometers, ShapeAccelArrays (SAAs), etc.
- Strong safety management experience.
- Customer focused with superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized, attentive to detail, strong work ethic, and well-developed problem-solving skills.
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Willing and able to work in remote location.
- Willing and able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
