Taylor McCaffrey LLP, one of Manitoba’s largest law firms and an industry leader is currently seeking a Legal Assistant for our Family Law practice. This position will provide support to a Partner as well as an Associate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently manage and organize the daily operation of a busy Family Law practice for a Partner and an Associate.
  • Obtain all applicable information from prospective clients to do conflict searches, open files and obtain billing information
  • Prepare monthly invoices for review and process payments monthly
  • Manage general and trust deposits of cheques;
  • Electronically and physically organize documents, pleadings and communications;
  • Organize closing of documents on settlement
  • Prepare Petitions for Divorce, Affidavits in support of divorce, facilitate service and manage submission of documents to court
  • Requisition Divorce Certificates and prepare draft reporting letters to clients
  • Proofread and add Schedules to Separation and Spousal Agreements
  • Prepare other pleadings and attach applicable exhibits as required to affidavits, prepare financial disclosure and affidavits as to documents and assist in trial preparation when required.
  • Monitor phone calls
  • Make necessary bookings, and update lawyers’ calendars
  • Transcribe from Dictation
  • Schedule internal and external meetings, phone calls, or outlook calendar events
  • Organize and manage files by scanning and copying documents
  • Communicate professionally with all internal and external clients
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time

  • Must be customer service driven
  • Be able to work independently and also work effectively as part of a team
  • Handle a demanding workload and respond to changing priorities as needs arise.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with individuals within the firm and clients external to the firm.
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and implement projects in a timely manner

Other:

Hours: 8:30 – 4:30 with some fluctuation dependent upon events
