Overview

Reporting to the Curling Manager or designate , the Ice Technician/ Facility Operator is responsible for but not limited to the production and maintenance of the curling ice. This includes surface preparation, painting and sponsor logo install, ice preparation for league or bonspiel play as well as proper rock conditioning and maintenance. Moreover, you will be a part of a team to ensure the safety and security of the facility , upkeep of cleaning standards , and provide a positive work environment work with other employees but with the customers too.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees and maintains the curling facility in the areas of ice maintenance, assists in housekeeping, building and grounds maintenance and the operation and repair of mechanical equipment to ensure the safe operation of the curling facility .
  • Performs regular ice making and maintenance duties.
  • Ensures quality ice surface and a safe curling rink environment is maintained for patrons.
  • Assists in the annual start up activities including but not limited to: maintenance and ice making operations ( i.e. servicing the refrigeration plant, preparation of the floor , walkways et c , flooding, ice painting, line installation, circle scribing and painting
  • Shaves, pebbles, and sweeps the ice areas.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance , cleaning and care of curling rocks and other curling assets.
  • Cleans, vacuums a nd maintenance on “ ice side ”
  • Plans and implements ice maintenance program for the curling facility
  • Monitors to ensure maintenance and ice making standards are maintained and adjustments are made.
  • Will conduct a n end of season shutdown, cleaning, repairs and maint enance
  • Adheres to all policy and safety guidelines as outlined in policy and procedure manuals.
  • Keeps C urling Club Manager or designate inform ed on all aspects of the facility/maintenance operation .
  • Assist with the transition of the space to and from non curling event s if required
  • Assist with changing draws schedules
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Able to work independently and under minimal supervision
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns.
  • Responsible for filling out daily check list s and safety inspection reports of equipment
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS /FUNCTIONS :
  • A minimum of 3 years as curling I ce Technician
  • Recognized record of success within curling ice operations
  • Minimum of Canadian Curling Association Level 1 Curling Ice Technician’s Certification
  • CCA training and industry certification
  • Saskatchewan Refrigeration Operator’s Certification is not mandatory but is preferred for the position
  • WHIMIS certification
  • First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Training and experience in the installation of ice sheets and demonstrated experience in preparing the playing surface
  • E xperience in installing decals into the ice - as well as removing them at the end of the season, employing required storage techniques .

  • Work closely with other departments to ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Deal courteously, effectively and tactfully with the general public and building vendors to offer the best customer experience possible.
  • Make sound, logical decisions by choosing appropriate courses of action based on available information.
  • Primary contact during operating hours to meet the goals and objectives of the curling operations.
