Science of Care Institute

We have an exciting opportunity for an Embedded Scientist (Nurse) with our Centre for Nursing Excellence and Science of Care Institute at Sinai Health.

The Science of Care Institute is located on the beautiful Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital campus of Sinai Health and is advancing new discoveries and innovation in how care is transformed, co-designed, implemented, and measured. Our Science of Care Research and Innovation Framework focuses on the integration of caring, symptom and safety science using team, implementation, improvement, and innovation science to accelerate new models of complex, compassionate, fundamental care and work environment strategies into practice that are sustainable and scalable.

The Science of Care Institute is in a growth trajectory that builds on a strong foundation of inter-disciplinary teams of researchers, clinician-scientists, trainees and staff from the former Collaboratory for Research and Innovation affiliated with the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute (LTRI) and our new Centre for Nursing Excellence. Collectively, our teams are working collaboratively to produce high quality research to drive innovation and health system transformation. LTRI is a University of Toronto affiliated research centre and is one of the world’s leading centres in biomedical and health systems research.

Centre for Nursing Excellence

In December 2021, we announced a $10 million dollar endowment to create a new Centre for Nursing Excellence at Sinai Health. This Centre is a core stream within our Science of Care Institute and core to meeting our requirements as a Magnet organization to outperform national benchmarks in outcomes related to patient experience, nurse sensitive outcomes, and staff satisfaction. As Canada’s only Magnet designated hospital we are committed to nurse led research and innovation to exceed the Magnet standard related to New Knowledge and innovation. Sinai Health was redesignated as a Magnet Hospital in December 2020 meeting all the required standards.

Our core focused area within the Centre for Nursing Excellence is the exploration and evaluation of fundamental care, integrated care models and interventions, and health innovations including co-design, implementation, scalability and sustainability across the healthcare system. Our approach is embedded scholarship and eclectic in nature, drawing from several scientific fields of including caring, symptom, safety, implementation, improvement, innovation and team sciences, as applied within person-centred learning health systems.

Position Summary

Our Science of Care Institute, Centre for Nursing Excellence, and LTRI are committed to excellence in health research and the training of all stages of scientists (e.g. early to senior). In this context, we are looking for an Embedded Scientist (Nurse) to join our team to establish and lead a program area of research in co-design, implementation and evaluation of transformational care models and health innovations to meet the evolving complex fundamental care needs of patients.
