Position Summary

Put your electrical skills into full motion and our Plant and General Maintenance department in Kamloops, BC. We are looking for a self-directed, motivated, reliable and flexible Electrician to join our team at Overlander Extended Care.

About The Role

This position performs skilled electrical work at the journeyman level in the installation, construction, alteration, repairing, troubleshooting, maintenance and/or service of electrical and electronic equipment and systems in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Some Typical Duties
  • Reviews work requests and consults with user departments regarding specifications and other project requirements; interprets blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the required materials and equipment; calculates materials and labour in estimating cost of projects and makes recommendations as required.
  • Prepares for work projects by performing operational and safety risk assessments, arranges work schedules with user departments and assembles supplies, tools and equipment.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, alters and repairs electrical wiring, circuits, equipment and appliances; makes connections to new equipment and appliances in conformance with applicable codes and regulations; performs diagnostic correction and repair utilizing recognized methods which may include the use of computer software.
  • Carries out preventative and predictive maintenance and safety checks on electrical/electronic systems, equipment, appliances, motors and controls by testing, calibrating and replacing parts as required; ensures compliance with applicable codes and regulations; writes operational instructions and preventative maintenance procedures as required.
  • Assigns work tasks to designated staff and provides related training and orientation; checks work performed to ensure that the work was done properly.
  • Maintains storage and work areas in clean, tidy and safe condition and maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment and tools; completes related reports and records including daily work summary sheets; recommends purchase of related supplies and equipment. Evaluates equipment/supplies for technical acceptance and safety prior to selection as required.
  • Performs other general maintenance and repair duties related to building, grounds and equipment in a variety of areas as required/assigned.
  • Performs all work in adherence to all applicable codes, regulations, and safety requirements, including regulations of the WCB.
  • Operates Interior Health vehicle to pickup, deliver and/or transport supplies, building materials, and/or equipment as required.
  • Maintains and updates trade knowledge by reviewing and staying current with applicable codes, regulations and standards. Advises Manager or Designated alternate of regulatory changes, code revisions and safety related matters.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, training sessions and quality assurance programs as required/directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements may vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week. Casual employment includes: short-notice, on-call availability; workload coverage during a temporary absence; and/or providing relief coverage in a specific position. Once hired into a casual role, employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent part-time or full time positions. This position is Monday to Friday and shift times are 08:00 to 16:00.

Qualifications

Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyman Electrician recognized by the Province of British Columbia. Two (2) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must have a B.C. Class B Field Safety Representative Certificate.

Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License required.
