Electrical Technician

Job Description And Responsibilities

As Electrical Controls Tech you will perform automation mill support as defined by all departments in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Providing all departments with automation solutions that meet company standards
  • PLC programming – Allen Bradley, PLC5, SLC, Controllogics, Siemens, Guardlogix
  • HMI programming – Allen Bradley, Panelview Plus, Proface, Siemens
  • VFD configuration and commissioning
  • Electro-hydraulic troubleshooting, tuning
  • Instrument calibrations
  • Pipe marking systems maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Cabling terminations including coax, twisted pair, CAT6, Device net
  • Intercom maintenance
  • Assist IT Department or contractor with security camera maintenance and system configuration
  • Assist IT Department or contractor with telephone system maintenance
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting services to Maintenance and Operations Departments
  • Following and improving policies and procedures for documenting work; providing comprehensive documentation for all projects including drawing as-builts and revisions
  • Recommending capital projects
  • Remaining current with EVRAZ business including appropriate level of understanding of product manufacturing processes and applied technologies
  • Writing proposals including business rules, process descriptions, business controls, opportunities, costs, and benefits
  • Writing requirement specifications, high level design, and architecture specifications for automation systems
  • Provide after-hours support

Requirements
  • Electrical Engineering Technologist or Electronics Engineering Technologist diploma or Journeyman Electrician with minimum 3 years PLC and VFD troubleshooting and programming experience
  • Well-organized self-starter, capable of budgeting time to meet priorities, while maintaining accuracy and functionality
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to write technical documents and specifications
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, industrial power equipment, DC & AC drives, and instrumentation and control systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics and drawings
  • Experience with troubleshooting techniques on manufacturing equipment/processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust and noise
  • Relevant experience with Allen Bradley PLC and HMI Software
  • Experience with AutoCAD, preferred
