THIS POSTING IS FOR ONE (1) PERMANENT FULL-TIME NON-BARGAINING UNIT POSITION.

London and Middlesex Community Housing is looking for an experienced communications professional to transform how we communicate with tenants, staff, and other key stakeholders. The Communications Manager will take the lead in developing and implementing integrated communications strategies that support organizational priorities while stewarding the brand and reputation of LMCH. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or designate, the Communications Manager works closely with business and program leads in the planning and implementation of LMCH’s internal and external communications and public relations initiatives, as well as corporate policies and procedures development.

The selected candidate will provide strategic advice and hands-on leadership on how to effectively communicate internal corporate information throughout the organization. Also, to contribute to a cooperative work environment where fairness, equity and non-discriminatory practices are the standard.

The successful candidate will bring experience in the not-for-profit sector, fresh ideas, and collaborative spirit to elevate the communication functions of LMCH and fosters connections with key partners such as the City of London to align communication channels and messaging.

1. KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functional

· Proactively identify opportunities to advance the organization’s vision, mission, and purpose through integrated communications plans that include operational, media, social media, and web-based communications.

· Uncover and share captivating, timely, impactful stories that could live across our communication channels, such as our websites, social media channels, and newsletters.

· Develop and implement a corporate communications policy and strategy in alignment with corporate vision, mission, values, and objectives.

· Proactively identify and organize media opportunities to profile LMCH and pitch stories to local, provincial, and national media outlets and publications.

· Develop and build positive relationships with media.

· Oversee and manage the response to media inquiries related to LMCH programs. Escort on-site media and manage follow-up. Provide briefing notes as needed.

Managerial

· Along with the Senior Leadership team, business leads, and subject matter experts, conceptualize, plan, and produce a range of communication and marketing materials including web content, social media posts, reports, newsletters, educational materials, digital signage, surveys, etc.

· Act as a strategic communication consultant and provides the Senior Leadership team with communication plans, and activities that support and drive our organization’s corporate priorities.

· Oversee and manage key events including announcements/media conferences, days of recognition, webinars, staff recognition initiatives, etc.

· Support crisis and issues the CEO as needed while keeping a pulse on the potential organizational culture/issues or concerns of all stakeholders.

· Develop and implement metrics to measure the effectiveness of communications delivered and implement improvements to better inform our employees.

· Incorporate best practices and insights from research to improve effectiveness and efficiency while bringing new ideas to the table that drive deeper engagement through creative channels and tactics.

· Keep current on the business’s strategic goals, performance and audiences in order to develop and implement an effective and comprehensive internal communication approach.

· Development of staff through mentoring, coaching and development which includes delegation of appropriate functions while serving as an example and leader when leading more critical or complex functions.

Administrative

· Manage an inventory of documents, news stories, and photographs relevant to the organization’s performance, communications, and development plans. Manage the digital asset library.

· Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

2. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & QUALIFICATIONS:

· A post-secondary education in a technical or related field (for example, English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or other relevant field).

· Membership in or accreditation by the Canadian Public Relations Society or International Association of Business Communicators would be an asset.

· Six (6) to nine (9) years of related experience (i.e. Marketing, Communications, Journalism) is required, with at least three (3) years of management experience.

· Excellent and proven written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling skills. This person will be responsible for developing communications plans and strategies to ensure content is posted in our communication channels, including internal boards (i.e. SharePoint and other digital platforms), website, and social media accounts (i.e. Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) are aligned with strategic priorities.

· Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) is essential. Experience with Drupal would be an asset.

· Demonstrated experience developing content and materials to support strategic initiatives.

· Experience in developing strategies and plans that focus on engaging/informing vulnerable populations.

· Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (i.e. PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel). This person will use these tools daily when preparing presentations, materials to be posted in our channels, and organizational reports.

· Experience mentoring and coaching people. This person will engage with his/her team and the senior leadership team periodically, as per business needs.

· Demonstrated experience building and leading successful teams.

· Experience managing Rental-Geared-to-Income would be an asset.

· Demonstrated experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

· Experience managing unionized employees would be an asset.

· Demonstrated experience working with a diverse client base, including needs and abilities, socio-economic factors, age and culture.

· Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for daily use.

· Must be able to attend all London area properties within 30 minutes.

4. POLICE RECORDS CHECK and VULNERABLE POSITION SCREENING:

This position requires the successful candidate submit a current Police Records check from their local police service. A current LMCH employee who is the successful candidate for this position must also provide this document unless it is already on file and not more than one year old.

5. SALARY & BENEFITS:

Target salary range of $70,233.19 - $98,692.65; we also offer comprehensive health benefits and a defined benefit pension plan.

Normal working hours are 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday to Friday, however, this role will require flexing of hours to support evenings or weekends based on project needs and demands.
