The Opportunity::
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Designer to join our growing team in Grande Prairie, AB. We are seeking a strong communicator who has excellent design skills and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D. As a true team player, you will have to the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on a variety of Highway Planning, Infrastructure Development, and Energy Servicing projects. This role is ideal for an individual who is looking to further their technical design, project management, and leadership skills, while contributing to the growth and diversification of our branch services. What You’ll Be Doing::
    • Contribute to the cost effective and timely production of engineering designs, including roadways, drainage and deep utilities that meet all client and approval agency requirements and standards
    • Transform preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans and project informational requirements, using primarily AutoCAD / Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed
    • Coordinate the preparation of drawings required for approvals, prepare and development construction cost estimates and quantity take-offs
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved
    • Provide construction supervision and/or administration for municipal and land development projects

What You’ll Bring::
    • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution is considered an asset
    • Prior related experience in a designer role:
      • 2+ years’ experience for applicants with a bachelor’s degree
      • 4+ years’ experience for applicants with a diploma
      • Preference will be given to candidates with local experience
    • Currently registered, or qualified to register as a Technician / Technologist with ASET or as an EIT or P.Eng with APEGA is considered an asset
    • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D Software is essential; knowledge and experience with CAD/Mapping/GIS software is also an asset
    • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Ability to work independently and within a busy, high-performing, deadline
