Our team of health professionals includes employees, doctors, researchers, learners and volunteers that provide the health care or services you may need. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.
Responsibilities
The Care Team Assistant is responsible to and works under the direction of the RN/LPN in providing care for the patient(s) which includes meeting their physical, social and psychological needs. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining and assisting with the activities of daily living according to the patient’s capabilities
- Maintaining and assisting with mobility and ambulation as part of patient care
- Recognizing the individuality of patients by involving them in decisions related to their care
- Assisting in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
- Observing any unusual reactions, symptoms and incidents that may indicate changes in patient’s condition and reporting such to the RN / LPN on the unit
- Recording appropriate information as determined by unit’s documentation system
- Transporting, moving patients as required using proper body mechanics
- Collecting and distributing reports, specimens, slips and supplies to the appropriate locations
- Understand and utilize appropriate aseptic techniques
- Performing tasks as designated under the direction of the supervising nurse
- Additional responsibilities as required.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Continuing Care Assistant Program plus provincial certification (or equivalent as defined by the employer)
- WHMIS, BCLS, NVCI or equivalent required upon employment
- Experience in caring for the elderly
- Course in Alzheimer’s and related dementia course an asset
- Basic Computer Skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Successful Applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment
Hours of Work
Permanent Part Time Position (50%); 37.5 hours biweekly
Salary Information
$18.6678 - $20.1919 hourly
