The installer will be able to read advanced drawings, such as wiring lists and block schematics; understand the operation of rectifiers and power plants, while comprehending cable sizing and difference in potential. In addition, the installer will be able to demonstrate the proper procedure for taking battery voltage and hydrometer readings and familiar with regional customer standards associated with firestopping.

Requirements

Demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Personnel and job safety
  • Supervision of delivery, check-in and placement of equipment

Knowledge of engineering drawings such as:

  • Wiring lists
  • Block schematics
  • Cable running lists
  • Meter skills and understanding DC theory and differences of potential
  • Taking and understanding battery voltages and hydrometer readings, and creating battery documentation
  • Knowledge of firestopping methods and procedures
  • Understanding regional customer standards
  • 2 years of experience in this field.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and Job Layout: Supervise, accept and organize unloading and checking-in of materials and equipment. Also initiate equipment placement and cable rack layout.
  • Firestopping: Understand methods (company standard), in addition to regional methods associated with the proper closure of cable holes.
  • Equipment Operation: Understand the proper operation of a rectifier and power board using the equipment document package as a reference. Also understand cable sizing requirements and differences in potential and DC theory.
  • Battery Operation: The installer can successfully demonstrate setting up a new battery plant including: acceptance of new batteries, voltage and hydrometer readings, and initial charging cycles. In addition, the importance of battery safety will be stressed, and proper battery sizing will be introduced. Battery spill and cleanup procedures will be conducted and observed to assure knowledge and compliance to OHSA & MOE requirements. The correct procedure for completing a battery report for customer acceptance will be required.
  • Reading and Understanding Office Drawings: Capable of using telephone office drawings, which will involve comprehension of wiring lists and block schematics, and proper procedures for making changes to office drawings.

  • Assisted in the installation of DC power in a Telco Central Office (C.O.)
  • small and large power racks or bays
  • Bus Bar distribution
  • Battery systems
  • Cable rack and auxiliary framing
  • Distribution bays and fuse panels
  • Distribution cabling and protection
  • Grounding and bonding.
  • Assisted in the installation of Telecom Digital Switching Equipment would be considered an asset.
  • Assisted in the installation of Telecommunication Transmission Equipment and MDF wiring would be considered and asset.
