We are looking for an Associate to join a growing pension plan and a small, dynamic investment team. Reporting to the Director, Real Assets, the Associate will be actively involved in all aspects of the investment process. The role will support the implementation of CAAT’s investment strategy, conduct due diligence, execute and monitor CAAT’s Real Asset investments.

Residing within CAAT’s Investment team, the Real Assets team is focused on building a globally diversified portfolio of infrastructure, real estate and agriculture private equity investments through fund commitments, co-investments and minority stakes. The Associate will have exposure to a unique set of career development opportunities beyond those typically available within large investment functions.

We are looking for someone with the following:

Education

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering or other related disciplines
  • Possessing or pursuing an MBA, MFin, CFA, CPA, CBV, CAIA, PEng or any other relevant professional designation would be an asset

Experience & Skillset

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Prior experience in institutional investing, private markets/private equity investing, investment banking or investment advisory would be an asset
  • Strong knowledge of private markets/private equity investing, due diligence, portfolio management and capital markets. Knowledge of the real assets investment universe or experience working on infrastructure, real estate or agriculture transactions would be an asset
  • Excellent financial modeling, financial analysis and valuation skills with the ability to think critically
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – able to make concise and informative recommendations and presentations

Once here you will:

Investment Process

  • Support the screening, evaluation and execution of prospective investment opportunities. Take ownership of due diligence workstreams (e.g. financial, legal, tax) and assist in managing third parties (e.g. advisors, lawyers)
  • Apply investment judgment with the ability to understand the wider deal context while focusing on key merits and risks
  • Prepare written investment memos for new investment opportunities. Support the Director, Real Assets in presenting recommendations to the Investment Committee
  • Maintain a prioritized pipeline of investment opportunities in tandem with the pacing model for the Real Assets portfolio

Portfolio Management

  • Monitor ongoing portfolio performance at the fund and asset level to ensure the Director, Real Assets has up-to-date knowledge of their status
  • Remain abreast of real assets investment themes and trends. Conduct research and perform special projects as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of Real Assets-related reporting materials for the Investment Committee and for senior management

Internal Initiatives

  • Contribute to developing a creative approach to assessing new investment opportunities and company track records
  • Actively contribute to Real Assets and Investment team discussions
  • Contribute to the standardization, documentation, and improvement of CAAT’s private market investing practices and processes
