A Wet End Mechanic Team 1 Portage, MB

Summary

The Mechanic Process diagnoses processing equipment problems, repairs minor and major breakdown of processioning equipment, performs preventative maintenance items, improves line efficiencies and ensures all equipment is in safe working condition.

This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisors.

The Portage facility is one of five plants (Caldwell, ID; Grand Forks, ND; Moses Lake, WA; and Othello, WA) within the processed potatoes division of the Food Group Division of the J.R. Simplot Company that produces food service French fries, granulated dehydrated mashed potatoes, shredded and southern style hash browns and specialty products.

The individual in this position must be able to disassemble, repair and reassemble all machines in the packaging area. The individual needs to be able to perform these tasks with minimal supervision. The individual in this positon will accomplish these tasks by utilizing a team concept through working with team members and following direction and instructions from a supervisor or fellow mechanic.

The individual in this position must establish and maintain open communications and productive work relationships with Maintenance Supervisors, Shift Managers, Production employees and Maintenance co-workers.

The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the areas in which they are working, and is required to have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates it. It is imperative the individual conducts themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of equipment and its surroundings.

Overtime requirements in this position are common and may be required to meet operational goals

Key Responsibilities

• Has thorough knowledge of all equipment and can identify all equipment in the Packaging Area.
• Ensures the capability of efficient operation of all equipment in the Packaging area, by using preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, overhauling and repairing equipment to achieve operational goals.
• Maintains logs and paperwork for each shift as needed and ensures the accuracy of data reporting systems such as the Maintenance Daily Logs, and Work Order forms.
• Performs welding as needed in a safe and accurate manner when repairing equipment.

Typical Education

Relevant Experience

1. Must have a minimum of two years of maintenance experience and certification as an Industrial Mechanic (millwright).

2. Must be able to communicate verbally in a professional manner.

3. Must have the ability to read and understand plant and equipment manuals, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), instructional manuals, and mechanical blue prints.

4. Must possess basic writing skills for recording information on daily logs, preventative maintenance forms and work orders.

5. Must have basic math skills to perform measurements.

6. Must have a basic understanding of drive components, bearings, sprockets, chains, belts, and plumbing components.

7. Must be capable of performing cutting and welding to meet Company’s standards.

8. Must have the ability to operate valves, keyboards, equipment, and other controls.

Required Certifications

Red Seal certification as an Industrial Mechanic (millwright).

Other Information

• Pay $: 42.79/hr
• Schedule: 12 hour shifts, rotating on weekends. 2 weeks on nights and 2 weeks on days.
• Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds, catwalks and maneuver in close quarters.
• Must be able to furnish own hand tools.
• Ability to operate a forklift and aerial lift equipment once trained and certified, and must meet the standards on fall protection restraints.
• Must be able to stand for long periods on concrete floors and work in extreme environments (hot, cold, humid, and slippery).
• Performs work on work orders; plans and schedules additional work as needed (can utilize JDE).
• Performs assigned responsibilities during Plant evacuation or other emergency situations.
• Ensures attendance and participation in training activities appropriate to the position and incorporates acquired skills and knowledge.
• Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies.
• Ensures that all work related activities (line changes, line calls, and program changes) within the facility are accomplished through methods which promote safety to employees and which minimize potential impact to the community and environment in which we live.
• Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a participative management style consistent with operational goals.
• Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the Company.
• Ensures that additional accountabilities as may be required by management be handled in a manner necessary to meet operational Divisional standards.
