This role sits within Laurentian Bank Securities, a subsidiary of Laurentian Bank.

We are an integrated full-service bank owned investment dealer, with multiple lines of business including fixed income, retail brokerage, foreign exchange, corporate lending and equities. Our institutional equity group, focused on small-to-mid capitalization companies, provides a full suite of services to our clients including research, trading and investment banking. Our mission is to find new early-stage investment ideas that generate higher financial returns for our institutional clients.

We are looking for an Equity Research Associate, Mining to add to our research team to assist our analyst with the coverage universe.

Responsibilities:
  • Building/maintaining spreadsheets and charts on industry and company-specific information.
  • Assist in building and maintaining financial models for companies under coverage and developing earnings forecasts.
  • Developing and maintaining comparative tables and assisting in comparative analysis.
  • Conduct secondary research using various sources that include: news articles, press releases, SEC forms, regulatory filings, Internet research, surveys, and/or direct discussions with company executives.
  • Assisting in the writing of research reports.
  • Work independently on assigned research tasks for timely completion.
  • Work under tight publishing deadlines in a goal-oriented environment.
  • Be a flexible team player, able to take on several projects simultaneously as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree. Majors in Finance, Geology, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, or Science considered assets.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Enrollment in/or successful completion of the CFA is a plus.
  • CPA/CA and/or MBA certification is a plus.
  • Detail oriented with solid accounting and analytical skills.
  • Keen interest in the financial markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to build rapport with industry contacts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, formulas, pivots, and macros.
  • Self–starters who learn quickly, excel working with others and are able to take on increased levels of responsibility.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).
