This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.
Responsibilities
The Environmental Services Worker contributes toward the protection against cross infection while keeping the facility safe and visibly clean and is responsible for the provision of a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive environment for patients, residents, visitors and staff. Duties of the position may include any or all duties outlined in the Environmental Services Worker position description. In addition to being readily available on short notice, the position requires availability for all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
The duties of the Environmental Services Worker will be carried out in accordance with the principles and practices that guide Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Qualifications
- Grade XII or equivalent
- Ability to use sound judgement and initiative
- Experience working with individuals with diverse intellectual / physical challenges
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with all levels of staff and patients/residents
- Ability to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to patients, staff, co-workers and the hospital
- Physically able to perform job duties including:
- Ability to withstand the demands of walking and standing most of the work day
- Ability to withstand the highly active and physical nature of the position
- Ability to lift heavy loads
- Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends on short notice for room cleaning and moving of heavy furniture
- Good reading and writing skills
- Previous hospital housekeeping and room cleaning experience would be a definite asset
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
