As a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies and within the Integrated Mission Systems Segment, the WESCAM division develops the most advanced optical sensor and targeting systems for global defense and military sectors, National Security, Search & Rescue and Airborne law enforcement agencies. From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they are a part of, produce stabilized high-magnification electro1-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first.

About The Role

Our software teams work directly with our optics and hardware teams – developing code that manages all of our systems controllers and actuators, telephoto lenses or targeting & tracking systems - and in particular, code that allows those captured images to be defined and managed. We develop advanced real time software for various applications and processors, including new payloads like complex imagers, laser illuminators & targeting designators, range finders and trackers. We develop the embedded controls and user interfaces for complex electro-mechanical systems including remote I/O subsystems, custom lens controllers, and advanced video processing features.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Under the guidance of senior software verification engineers/designers, verify and validate software for world class, state-of-the-art electro-optical surveillance systems
  • Review software requirements and design elements
  • Create and maintain requirements based software tests in an embedded environment
  • Analyze software defects uncovered through both dynamic and static testing
  • Write verification reports to document test results
  • Improve the overall software quality
Required Capabilities
  • Strong working knowledge of embedded C programming
  • Solid understanding of Verification and Validation model.
  • Experience preparing test cases and test procedures in accordance with verification test plan.
  • Strong Experience performing informal and formal testing in accordance with verification test plan.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems design (hardware & software)
  • Practical understanding of real time operating systems, and multi-threaded real time code an asset
  • Experience working with tools to generate automated tests in an embedded environment to conduct requirements based testing
  • Experience with Software-in-the-loop (SIL), Processor-in-the-loop (PIL), and Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test paradigms
  • Experience with DO-178 verification/validation processes and practices an asset
  • Experience working with Test Driven Development (TDD) an asset.
  • Experience working with commercial verification tools (i.e. VectorCAST, Cantata, LDRA, GoogleTest etc.) an asset.
  • Experience working with static analysis tools an asset.
  • Detailed understanding of common communication protocols such as RS232, RS422, I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, Ethernet, etc. an asset
  • Familiarity with Linux as a development host an asset
  • Familiarity with electro-mechanical and optical sensor assemblies an asset
  • Very strong problem solving abilities, technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment
  • Meets the requirements of the Controlled Goods Registration Program and is eligible for a Canadian government security clearance
Desired Education and Experiences
  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of experience testing real time software for embedded controllers in C.
