The Prairie Agricultural Machinery Institute (PAMI) is an ISO 9001:2015-registered organization established in 1975 to provide a unique resource to both prairie farmers and agricultural machinery manufacturers. Today, in addition to continuing our agricultural priorities, PAMI has also evolved to serve the needs of both the mining and transportation industries. With a professionally diverse staff, PAMI is committed to providing excellence in product development, testing, and design. We offer our clients access to valuable agricultural testing and benchmarking equipment as well as first-rate testing equipment for industry. PAMI also offers computer-aided engineering technologies. With these technologies, PAMI is able to digitally prototype a structure, bulk material, or fluid to analyze the performance of a particular product or system.
The Opportunity:
You will join a team of 4 technical leads who are responsible for strategic skills such as electronics, instrumentation, numerical modeling, design and fabrication. The current technical lead opportunity will be responsible for the team overseeing electronics, instrumentation, and our cable shop.

You will report directly to the Director of Technical Services.

The Technical Service Leads collaborate extensively with others in the Project Management team to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget. Technical Service Leads generally split time between people management and operational duties on a basis of ~25/75%.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the general responsibilities of this position but are not inclusive of all the that may be required to be successful. For each employee, duties may vary and some may not be applicable:

People Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of technical / engineering/ operations colleagues
  • Perform employee evaluations annually and quarterly
  • Communicate and adhere to PAMI policies and procedures
  • Support the training and skills development of his/her team
  • Use feedback from the project leaders and team to manage, plan and evaluate skills sets required to fulfill projects
  • Direct reports of 2 – 4 employees up to a maximum of 10

Operational Excellence:

  • Support and provide input to the Project Management team regarding project scheduling and resource allocation
  • Ensuring that individual and team tasks are completed on time and within budget
  • Recruit and retain skilled employees. Seek and establish partnerships when and as appropriate to fill skill gaps on short, medium and long term basis with the assistance of Human Resources
  • Coordinate project area activities to fulfill planned objectives
  • Maintain internal and external quality and safety standard
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and developments to enhance service standards and delivery
  • Anticipate and implement solutions to current and future technical services
  • Contribute to strategic discussions and decisions to strengthen PAMI’s financial position and reputation amongst key industry stakeholders

Credentials and Experience:

  • University undergraduate degree or college diploma in electronics, engineering, computer programming or another applicable technology area
  • Ideally a minimum of 5 years of technical work coupled with managing people (contractors or employees)
