Location: ALS Geochemistry, North Vancouver
Reports to: Instrumentation Manager
About the Position: Working as part of the Instrumentation Maintenance team, the assembler is building, testing and helping with manufacturing the company’s proprietary devices.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Assemble and test mechanical and electrical components and assemblies;
  • Assemble devices from mechanical and electrical components to complete functioning unit;
  • Assist with and complete builds of various laboratory equipment;
  • Assist with development and do modifications of devices under development;
  • Testing and inspection of devices, assemblies or sub-assemblies;
  • Perform checks, repairs or manipulations with supporting systems like cooling, gas supply, pneumatic and hydraulic systems when required;
  • Electronic/electrical and mechanical fabrication on custom equipment and tools;
  • Final assembly packing and preparation for shipping;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • An aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems;
  • Ability to read technical manuals and schematics;
  • Ability to follow through and complete assigned duties according to deadlines;
  • Ability to setup and test systems;
  • Ability to use small hand and power tools;
  • Experience using measuring tools such as callipers, multi-meters, thermometers, data loggers;
  • Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail;
  • Fluency in speaking and reding English;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently but be a team player;
  • Proficient in computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook;
  • Safety oriented.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school graduation required;
  • Post-secondary education in an electro-mechanical discipline is preferred;
  • 1 year of experience in the electronics or electro-mechanical technology related field is required.
Physical Demands:
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
