Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Educational Technology Supervisor, the Educational Technology Specialist is responsible for advising and consulting with faculty members, contract instructors and teaching assistants on the use of a large and evolving number of educational technologies in teaching and learning activities at Carleton (including face to face, blended and fully online courses).
The Educational Technology Specialist responds to inquiries from faculty, contract instructors and TAs with prompt and accurate information about pedagogical and technological applications of the Learning Management System (LMS, web conferencing, media development and the many other digital learning tools supported by the university.

Qualifications:The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of instructional design, course design, learning theories, and educational technologies.
  • Familiar with the principles of adult and technology-mediated pedagogy.
  • Experience and expertise with a variety of multimedia authoring applications, Learning Management Systems and educational technology tools.
  • Project facilitation and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Excellent awareness of and actively researches available educational solutions for best pedagogical practice
Education and Experience:The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
  • A Masters degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Adult Education or related field is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of relevant and current work experience in instructional design, educational technology support, or other field related to e-learning, preferably in educational settings. Teaching experience in a Higher Education environment is preferred. Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.
