This role leads and oversees Customer Solutions for Deposits Products within the Caribbean, Central America and Uruguay Region (CCAU) region ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


The Director, Customer Solutions Deposits, CCAU’s will lead the Deposits Products team that has business line responsibilities with oversight and governance of local Deposit Product Management functions and grow Retail and Small Business Deposits Portfolios across the CCAU.


Reporting to the Vice President, Retail Support CCAU, this role will deliver strategic advice that optimizes product design and development, process design, customer value propositions and day to day management of the assigned portfolio. This will be done through structured research, analysis and compelling strategic recommendations via the evaluation, design and optimization of the business strategy. The incumbent works with key stakeholder groups within International Banking, Country leadership and various Corporate stakeholders to conduct E2E reviews, develop a product and service strategy and implement tools to support that strategy. The role will have significant influence over the improvement in our customer experience and our ability to meet our strategic goal of acquiring more sustainable and profitable primary banking customer relationships and reduce the bank’s cost of funding to drive overall profitability.


Accountabilities:


  • Business Line Responsibilities:
    • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
    • Act as a strong business leader, with oversight over assigned portfolios.
    • Identifies opportunities and leads efforts to enhance the Deposits product and service offering to help Scotiabank advance its position as a leader in the CCAU region.
    • Provide business line expertise and direction across various strategic initiatives and projects.
    • Oversight and governance responsibilities to ensure the safe and consistent growth of Core and Term deposits and overall funding strategies for Retail and Business Portfolios across the region while seeking opportunities for standardization to reduce complexity, risk and cost
    • Provide guidance and leadership on business performance and profitability, expense management, customer strategies, end to end process engineering, audit resolutions, regulatory compliance, sales & service disciplines, channel and technology capabilities and communication.
    • Provide guidance and support to regional and local ALCO committees to monitor and drive better portfolio profitability across the region
    • Provide regional oversight around audit items related to the Deposits portfolio
    • Provide recommendation for Acquisition and retention based on regional opportunities and best practices

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Embeds effective techniques to create a performance driven culture
    • Develops strategic relationships in order to manage change effectively and to maintain expertise and knowledge of industry
    • Employs strong financial, market and industry insights to inform data drive decision making for the assigned regions.
    • Monitors portfolio performance and margins to drive regional strategies and profitability.
    • Leads/participates in various Executive committees related to strategic initiatives, including supporting the implementation of pricing committees

  • Strategic Planning
    • Lead/participate in integrated cross-functional teams to provide insights of business opportunities through strategy-focused intelligence and analysis for planning and execution of strategic initiatives
    • Drive CAAU regional policy, initiatives, changes and guidelines
    • Understand local market needs and offerings, and for recommendations for local product development while seeking opportunities for standardization across the platform.
    • Form consistent omnichannel customer value propositions reflective of customer needs.
    • Ensure strategic initiatives meet the necessary rigor, strategic alignment, and return objectives; fully reflect the costs and benefits associated with the initiative
    • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
    • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
    • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.


Education and Experience:


  • University Degree in Business, preferably MBA or relevant post-Graduate degree.
  • Extensive (10+) years work experience, preferably in financial services including multiple years of progressively more senior strategy roles in management consulting and / or Deposits portfolio and strategy, management and design
  • Experience mobilizing and leading complex strategic initiatives is an asset
  • Superior influencing skills with excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills in order to build consensus and obtain cooperation.
  • Proven track record delivering innovative solutions from concept to change management
  • Strong writing and verbal skills.
  • Spanish language knowledge would be considered an asset
