Description:

The Division of University Advancement leads the Advancement College which serves to support the continued education, training and development of its entire University Advancement staff, advancement awards and recognition programs and entry level pipeline programs such as internships. Reporting to the Executive Director, Advancement Strategic Planning and Organizational Development, this position also works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that the appropriate objectives and priorities are supported within the advancement community. The Director will be responsible for the development and execution of a variety of programs offered through the Advancement College: direct the identification, development, and implementation of professional development programs ensuring alignment to current and future requirements to support strategic direction. The Director provides leadership on the course development and delivery of programs to advancement professional staffs across the University; assessing the content, instruction and appropriateness of courses to contemporary advancement and alumni topics.


Additionally, the Director leads the development of advancement awards and recognition strategy and programs and oversees the execution of University-wide recognition programs.


The Director works closely with central and divisional advancement heads and senior executives in evaluating and implementing retention strategies that will aid in strengthening the career paths of advancement professionals within the University of Toronto to achieve the goals set out to sustain annual thresholds of fundraising, and to help improve alumni affinity and engagement metrics.


Essential Qualifications:

(MINIMUM)


EDUCATION:


Post-graduate degree (Masters) in Adult Education, Organizational Learning and Development, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Coaching designation an asset.


EXPERIENCE:


Minimum of seven (7) years of related work experience, of which at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of leadership, training, development (including e-learning and mentoring).Demonstrated expertise in coaching. A strong preference for experience acquired within a post-secondary setting developing a variety of learner-centred programs that support staff success. Demonstrated knowledge through direct experience of learning concepts, training and development methods and techniques. Demonstrated ability to develop programs that enhance the staff experience. Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and, development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting. The individual is also expected to have demonstrated experience and confidence in asking people to contribute time and money.


SKILLS:


Computer experience required.


OTHER


Highly developed coaching, facilitation, mentoring, leadership, organizational, program development, analytical, communication, research, and project management skills. Must have a strong appreciation of UofT values and a commitment to staff development. Highly developed skills in oral and written communication. High degree of political acuity and judgment. Outstanding ability to articulate the potential of technological solutions as they relate to program delivery and leadership issues. Must have the ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the University as well as externally and deal with senior University administrators in a manner which facilitates cooperation and collaboration.
