Job Description

We are currently seeking a full-time Transportation Engineer, Engineer-in-Training, or Technologist, with 3 to 7+ years of work experience, for our Downtown Toronto Campus or Markham office. This position will oversee technical staff on multiple transportation impact study projects and provide technical support and services to the Transportation Engineering / Transportation Planning team, helping define the cities of tomorrow.

Most Of What You’ll Be Doing:

• Overseeing technical staff across multiple projects, including
  • project coordination to ensure that projects get done in a timely manner,
  • balancing priority tasks effectively
  • conducting regular check-ins to keep appraised of progress and catch any concerns early-on
  • completing reviews of technical assessments throughout the life of the project
  • ensuring the appropriate quality of work is being met within the given time frame
• Reporting to Project Managers, updating them on project progress.
  • Attending proposal and project coordination meetings
  • Updating Project Managers on project progress
  • answering questions pertaining to project history or technical aspects of work being done

Most of the things you’ll work on:

• Traffic impact studies, including
  • conducting traffic operational analyses using tools such as Synchro software to assess the impacts of future proposed developments on the surrounding road network; and
• Parking studies, including
  • Assessing existing and future parking needs for a development,
  • Applying sustainably focused solutions, such as Transportation Demand Management, to reduce the requirement for parking, and
  • Introducing parking technology solutions to future proof the development.
• Collaborative projects with other IBI departments, including the Architecture, Urban Design, and Land Use Planning teams, on large multi-disciplinary Transit Oriented Developments.

Qualifications

You’ll Need To Have:

• A Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, or Engineering Technology with a focus on Transportation;
• 3 to 7+ years of work experience in traffic engineering, traffic operations, and/or transportation planning;
• A working knowledge of Synchro / SimTraffic; also helpful are roundabout operations analysis applications;
• An enthusiastic attitude in working with other members of the transportation team;
• The ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple project deadlines, mentor junior staff, and produce technical reports;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. noteworthy analytical skills in MS Excel);
• Innovative critical-thinking and decision-making skills, with a commitment to excellence and high quality work;
• An interest in taking initiative to develop practical and innovative solutions to transportation and parking problems; and
• A self-motivated work ethic, able to jump between tasks with minimal oversight and occasionally tight timelines while staying within project budget.
• An understanding of traffic signal controller parameters and functions is beneficial
• Working knowledge of MTO and TAC geometric design standards is considered an asset
• A basic understanding of Python framework is beneficial
• Working knowledge of CAD applications (e.g., AutoCAD, Micro-Station, AutoTurn) preferred
• Goals of working towards achieving the P.Eng. / CET designation is considered an asset

Additional Information

We are currently in a work from home model during COVID-19 but when we do return to the office we’re located at 55 St. Clair Ave West, this office is steps away from St. Clair station and is easily accessible by bike, TTC and car. Occupying 7 floors, with over 700 employees, it is the largest office at IBI Group. You will need to be local to the Toronto office and able to work remotely until we return to the office.
