Within the Pharmaceutical and Supplementary Benefits Division, AADL resides under the Pharmaceutical and Supplementary Health Benefits Branch. The Branch is responsible for policy and program operations related to a variety of drug and supplementary benefit programs. This Branch is comprised of four units: Pharmaceutical Strategy and Foresight, Professional and Industry Relations, Policy and Advisory, and Supplementary Health Benefits.

The Branch is responsible for government sponsored drug and other supplementary health benefit programs, including the Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Program.

Role

Reporting to the Director, the Strategic Directions Consultant leads the unit’s strategic and operational planning as well as communications and ministerial action request functions.

As the unit’s expert in planning and communications, you will lead the reviewing, developing, evaluating and implementing of Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) policies and programs. This includes leading the unit’s environmental scanning, research function, participating in program and policy analysis, issues analysis and strategic advice in support of policy direction for AADL. Your strong research and analysis skills will allow you to be aware of emerging issues and coordinate actions as well as appropriate provision input in the development of new policies.

Your strong writing skills will allow you to develop a variety of communications including but not limited to Action Request, briefing notes and bulletins within tight deadlines.

You will leverage your strong communication skills to develop networks and work closely with departmental and government legislative staff to address program legal concerns and steer proposed changes in legislation through to implementation.

Qualifications

A university degree in a related field is required, in addition to 4 years of related experience.

Experience in the following is required:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience drafting various communications including but not limited to Action Request, Briefing Notes, and Bulletins etc.
  • Minimum 2 years’ working within a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience coordinating policy and/or program development projects

Preference will be given to candidate who have the following experience:

  • Experience providing strategic advice for program policies;
  • Leadership experience;
  • Experience with Action Request Tracking System (ARTS)

Salary

$2,803.40 to $3,674.86 bi-weekly. ($73,158 - $95,891 / year)

As per the pandemic restrictions and government recommendations, the department is currently supporting working from home. Reporting to the office for onboarding purposes may be required on a short-term basis. Outside the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, this role is expected to work onsite from the downtown office location in Edmonton.
