Senior Structural Design Technician

Scientific Technical Officer R24

This position is located in Coquitlam, other locations such as Kamloops, Prince George and Victoria may be considered subject to operational requirements.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.

As the bridge design technician for the Ministry, this position provides the technical expertise for the bridge design/structural drafting requirements used by the Bridge Design and Construction Engineers for new and rehabilitated structural projects. This position is also responsible for training junior staff, ensuring compliance with Ministry policies, guidelines and standards and preparing the structural drafting specifications for contracts used for external tendering.

Job Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
  • Technical diploma in Civil and/or Structural Technology or Structural Drafting, or equivalent.
  • Experience with bridge structural technology, bridge drawing preparation and manufacturing.
Preference May Be Given To Applicants With
  • Experience in computer software including AutoCAD/CAD systems.
  • Experience interpreting specifications, standards and engineering drawings.
  • Related experience in other engineering fields such as Geotechnical, Hydrology and Highway Design.
Proviso
  • This position requires you to have a valid FULL BC driver’s license (minimum class 5), or an equivalent class driver’s license from another province or jurisdiction.
