Position Description

The Department of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science invites applications for a CHEM 203 Sessional Instructor and Course Coordinator in the Winter 2023 term.

Coordinator Duties Will Include

The successful candidate will have responsibilities for instruction of one lecture section (400 students) and associated duties for this 3-unit course.
  • supervision and direction of a team of teaching assistants that will directly facilitate the 16 tutorial sections.
  • maintenance and development of the tutorial material and tutorial assessments
  • maintenance and development of the course D2L website
  • coordination with the other course instructor regarding content and assessments
Course Description: Chemistry 203 - General Chemistry: Change and Equilibrium

An introduction to university chemistry from theoretical and practical perspectives that focuses on an exploration of the fundamental links between kinetics, equilibria and thermodynamics and explores acidity/basicity and redox behaviour using inorganic and organic examples.

Winter 2023 Term Dates: Tuesday, January 3, 2023 - Friday, April 28, 2023

Teaching Schedule: Lectures = MWF 11:00AM - 11:50AM

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry and a strong, substantial record demonstrating teaching excellence. The appointees will be expected to remain abreast of current developments in science, particularly in Chemistry. Previous experience in teaching Chemistry 201, 203 or 209 is an important asset. Experience coordinating laboratories and/or teams of graduate student teaching assistants is especially valuable, as is familiarity with the campus learning management system, D2L.
