Please note: This role is a permanent position based in the Toronto Broadcasting Centre (with the ability to telework some days) and will require working evenings and weekends as per production needs.

CBC Music, home of the most relevant and engaging stories and voices in Canadian music today, is currently seeking a Senior Producer to manage the CBC Music’s Social and Editorial teams. If you’re an excellent communicator who is passionate about sharing Canadian music and the live music experience with Canadians, across platforms, then this could be the ideal job for you.

Reporting to the Executive Producer of CBC Music’s Content and Events team, you will manage the Social and Editorial teams in planning and assignment. You will also be responsible for all content for the CBC Music’s website and associated social channels and take a lead role in setting both short- and long-term strategy.

As a Senior Producer, you are a talented storyteller and a cultural advocate, with a track record of creating timely, and engaging online content in a deadline-driven environment. You are also a leader, with several years of experience inspiring your team to shine while remaining focused on larger strategic objectives.

You bring passion and drive, along with a highly developed set of digital publishing skills in assigning, commissioning, editing, producing and disseminating content. You are comfortable using data to inform your editorial decisions, and are sensitive to the ever-changing tides of online attention, without compromising your strong story judgment. You are a dedicated advocate for inclusion in your work and your leadership style inspires others to experiment and question traditional thinking about programming and content creation.

Key Tasks

Under the direction of the Executive Producer

  • Assigns, supervises, and exercises editorial responsibility as delegated by the department for all content published to the website and associated social channels

  • Manages a team of writers and producers with a defined voice that is unique in the market and true to the CBC Music brand personality

  • Plans, creates and distributes original social content in support of CBC Music programming on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok)

  • Conceives and initiates the rollout of social-first content on CBC Music branded social channels

  • Monitors content metrics and consumption patterns and actively keeps up to date on social and digital trends, identifying real-time content and engagement opportunities

  • Creates and maintains short, medium and long-term editorial and social schedules

  • Supervises delivery of cross-platform editorial and audience engagement from conception to publication and distribution

  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization to develop digital strategy and ensure goals are in line with overall objectives and audience research

  • Ensures, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in digital platforms

  • Produces content daily for the website and social networks, as required

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant editorial experience, including 3 years experience managing teams

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, and connections to underrepresented communities

  • Several years experience using social media strategy, professionally, to reach audiences

  • Ability to guide a team to produce high quality digital content on a daily basis

  • Experience creating and implementing daily, weekly and long-term editorial plans

  • Experience managing a content framework and well versed in how to measure success within that structure

  • Experience collaborating with and assigning work to individuals occupying roles such as that of Producer, Developer, Designer, and/or support staff, with the goal of producing digital content

  • Must be comfortable publishing in content management systems

  • Ability to write clearly and concisely with copy editing experience, particularly using CP style, is a plus

  • Experience applying journalistic standards and practices

  • Excellent awareness of the media industry, keeping abreast of new technologies and how major industry players are employing a wide range of digital outputs and formats

  • In-depth experience in and a solid working knowledge of the music scene in Canada

  • Good understanding of project management and strong organizational skills

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and to respond to many conflicting demands in a short space of time

  • Ability to work, and direct the work of others, within tight deadlines without sacrificing creativity or quality whilst maintaining a positive environment

  • Ability to develop ideas to best utilize the corporation’s return on investment with an eye toward growing audience and engagement

  • Ability to take initiative, be proactive, and contribute positively to a team

  • A university degree or equivalent

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends as required

  • Must be able to regularly commute to the Toronto Broadcast Centre and attend industry events as necessary
