Position Overview

Kiewit Engineering Group Inc., delivers a unique perspective to the projects we engineer. In our Energy Engineering division, Kiewit Engineering is assembling a team that will change the way EPC solutions are delivered to Canadian markets. We seek a Senior Engineering Manager who will work with our team to provide the full range of service in an integrated delivery system – from FEL 1 to Design to Construction completion for Energy (Power, Industrial, Mining and Oil & Gas) projects. Our unique, construction led engineering services have been recognized by clients to efficiently, quickly, and cost effectively deliver projects on time with outstanding quality.

Reporting to the Engineering Vice-President, the Senior Engineering Manager will put in place the process, people, and technology to deliver on Kiewit’s promise and also be an architect in its development. You will also work with the Business Development and Business Line Managers to help secure work for the Energy Markets throughout Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed engineering and operating plans that demonstrate a solid understanding of recruiting, development and retention, and overhead costs which develops a pro-forma that achieves a profitable department with a few years;
  • Manage and direct project teams through effective communication, coordination and follow up to meet project goals and objectives;
  • Ensure project scope of work, schedule and budget are clearly defined and understood;
  • Participate in on-going high-level client relationships within the industry as requested;
  • Direct the development of the project execution plan including deliverables list, schedule, budget, and job hour projections required to successfully execute the projects;
  • Participate in internal bid/no-bid decisions per Kiewit’s “Get Work” processes;
  • Support presentation of proposals to customers as requested.
  • Assist with the desired technical content for proposal documents and engineering estimate to successfully capture work;
  • Guide engineering and design professionals to execute work profitably with a high degree of quality;
  • Maintain a strong network of industry related individuals (OEM’s, 3rd Party Contractors, Developers, Local EP houses) for expanding Kiewit Engineering’s services and opportunities;
  • Ensure quality control of services and deliverables provided, in accordance with the Kiewit Company Quality Plan;
  • Ensure scope management so that the scope of services required by the Contract are provided and that out-of-scope work is properly compensated;
  • Monitor and report project progress management against the execution plan. Take appropriate corrective action if progress falls behind the plan;
  • Monitor, control, and report project expenditures against the budget and maintain cost management;
  • Develop a strong understanding of customers’ current goals/objectives/plans, develop, customer-specific capture plans and communicate opportunities in a timely manner;
  • Communicate project status to management as required.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Senior Engineering Manager position will possess the following qualities:
  • A minimum of 15 years proven experience in some of the Energy Markets (Power, Industrial, Mining and Oil & Gas) engineering industry;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ proven experience overseeing 3rd party engineering and designs.
  • Demonstrated engineering design and operations department planning and growth experience;
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering;
  • Professional Engineering (PEng) designation preferred;
  • Strong leadership and networking skills;
  • Willingness to travel (~25% of time) with overnight stays required;
  • High degree of self-motivation;
  • Be a critical thinker using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of various solutions;
  • Emotionally intelligent with highly developed soft skills; and
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
