The Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for full-cycle accounting for BUKSA and the portfolio of associations we manage. The role also includes administrative responsibilities around HR and campus management.

In addition to corporate bookkeeping and reporting, the senior bookkeeper supports financial management for our client projects. This responsibility makes the role unique: we organize conferences (virtual, hybrid, and in-person) and thereby track revenue and expenses for each project. As part of our Association Management service, we do the bookkeeping for several member-based associations.

The senior bookkeeper is a skilled and accurate professional with excellent communication skills who enjoys collaborating with others, and thrives in an environment where many projects are being planned and executed simultaneously. Solid experience in cloud accounting is required.

This position is full-time, based in Edmonton in our new office space.

The Accountant has dual reporting, to the Director of Service Operations and to the President.

Responsibilities include:

  • Full cycle accounting (AR/AP) and reporting
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements
  • Administer and process payroll, source deductions, WCB, and benefits
  • Banking - reconciliations, deposits
  • Administer and reconcile credit cards
  • CRA and other tax filing for the organizations
  • Create, manage and monitor cash flow, forecasts, budgets, etc. for the organizations
  • Manage banking
  • Administer and manage accounting related filing systems
  • Prepare year-end files and liaise with external accountants
  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures
  • Process fee contracts
  • Client communication including meetings, telephone calls and emails
  • Maintain HR files, hiring packs, and support employee life-cycle activities
  • Oversee campus (office) management - janitorial, repairs, building access, liaison with property management
  • Core Competencies:
  • Ability to prioritize work and the completion thereof in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently while providing support to project teams and senior management
  • Proficient with QuickBooks Online and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to actively listen and use creativity to solve problems
  • High standards for work, meticulous, with great attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Confident, resourceful, and highly motivated with a "can do" attitude

Education and Experience:

  • 3-5+ years of full cycle accounting experience
  • A diploma or degree in accounting
  • A professional accounting designation (an asset but not required)

Compensation:

  • $60,000 - $70,000
