We are hiring a Full Time, Permanent Senior Analyst, Finance position in Edmonton, AB.

The Senior Analyst, Finance is accountable for preparation, analysis and evaluation of budgets and forecasts of energy revenue and costs, accounting for actual results of energy revenue and costs, and rate filing applications of energy revenue and costs. This includes achieving accurate and timely reporting of energy revenue and costs as well as month end reporting.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Ensuring the completion of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and external and internal audit requirements
  • Ensuring proper accounting treatments for routine, non-routine and complex transactions
  • Researching appropriate accounting standards and developing recommendations on moderately complex accounting policies under IFRS accounting standards
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual financial statements and note disclosures for the company, including ensuring the adequacy of financial statements disclosure against IFRS disclosure requirements
  • Identifying and evaluating financial reporting needs, data requirements and business processes to support reliable financial reporting
  • Designing analytical and financial reports to address these needs
  • Assessing risks of changes to financial reporting systems, developing testing procedures/scenarios accordingly and evaluating the test results
  • Maintaining high quality internal controls, including providing inputs to the design of controls for new processes and transactions
  • Maintaining all aspects of energy accounting, including rate uploads, journal entries, in depth margin analysis and drafting related sections of the internal financial review
  • Preparing of budget, forecast and rate filing application of energy revenue and costs
  • Contributing to the ongoing process improvement initiative and assisting with special projects, as required, such as providing input and support for software system upgrades or replacements

What’s required to be successful

  • Post-secondary Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting from a recognized education institution is required
  • Professional Accounting Designation is required
  • Minimum 4-6 years of directly related and progressively responsible professional accounting experience
  • Demonstrated capability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to ensure the adherence to financial reporting practices, policies and accounting standards
  • Ability to apply accounting standards knowledge and judgement to research and develop recommendations on moderately complex accounting policies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with Oracle GL systems, Workday OfficeConnect and Adaptive Planning and Oracle BI for financial analysis and reporting would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the electricity industry and regulatory environment would be considered an asset
