Project Summary

The position involves working as part of a dynamic group in the area of determining how to provide the best protection for military personnel should they be required to attend the scene of a release involving dangerous chemical or biological materials. As part of this project, we are evaluating protective equipment for the Canadian Armed Forces. The position is funded through March 2023 but is potentially renewable in April contingent on funding availability.

The successful candidate will be mainly responsible for assisting in the laboratory using a variety of measurement techniques that are associated with standard methods for measurement of performance of protective equipment, record-keeping, maintaining the equipment, developing new methods, data analysis, and reporting, and assisting in general laboratory operations. Assisting with running user trials of new equipment both in-house and at one or more locations in central Canada is required.

Deliverables

  • Either a scientific report published internally within DRDC/RMC or in open literature (e.g., a recognized journal). This report will detail contemporary or near-term threats depending on technology readiness level and evaluate the risk level in terms of those threats.

Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance from the Government of Canada is required.
  • Technologist Diploma through university degree (Bachelors), in a field related to chemical sciences.
  • General knowledge of the principles of biology/physical/chemical sciences.
  • General knowledge of safety procedures and precautions used in a technical working environment.
  • Use of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Ability to use MS Word, perform spreadsheet/data analysis using Excel, and prepare presentations using PowerPoint.
  • Ability to perform literature searches and do necessary reading to become proficient in a topic.
  • Ability to organize and time-manage while working on multiple projects.

Length of Contract

Start ASAP with an end date of March 31st, 2023. Possibility of extension. Estimated 37.5 hours/week.

Location

This contract must be completed on-site at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, ON. No remote work is available.
