Reporting to the Manager, Research and Strategic Initiatives, this position identifies and pursues collaborative applied research projects with various sized enterprises under various funding initiatives. The incumbent provides support to Sheridan’s Research and Incubation Centres, faculty and students to engage in research through the development, implementation and management of research projects, including applying for external research funding, and supporting faculty, staff and industry/community partner research relationships. The incumbent acts as a grant manager for funded projects to ensure timelines and milestones are achieved and works with research finance administrators to project manage the administration of funds to ensure appropriate, accurate and timely expenditures of research funds. The incumbent will be responsible to understand requirements of external funding bodies, such as NSERC, SSHRC, OCI and CFI and ensure compliance with grant application requirements and funding terms and conditions. Finally, the incumbent will be required to support the accurate and timely collection of data and metrics to support the completion of various national and provincial requests for data.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Providing support to faculty, Research and Incubation Centres, students, and industry and community partners to engage in collaborative applied research projects through idea formulation, market research, supporting proposal writing and grant management.
  • Managing/leading and participating where appropriate in the full applied research process, ensuring compliance with all College and Applied Research and Innovation strategies, policies and procedures and funding agency requirements.
  • Providing administrative support and technical assistance (within the limits of his/her knowledge and experience) to researchers and clients from idea generation to proposal writing, grant administration and execution/submission of final reports to the funding body;
  • Promoting an awareness of Sheridan College’s applied research expertise and capacity among local business and industry, related organizations and economic development agencies.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key business, industry and community partner contacts.
  • Networking with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for collaborative applied research projects.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
About You

You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student, faculty and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.

You bring sound knowledge and proven ability assessing opportunities in a variety of science and technical disciplines, as well as proven communication and relationship development and management skills.

You have sound understanding of project management principles and tools and can multi-task, prioritize, balance and manage multiple complex and competing demands.

The Successful Candidate Will Also Meet The Following Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering, or related field of study.
  • 5 years of relevant research or grant related experience (Equivalency will be considered)
  • Experience leading Research projects with the ability to seek funding from external partners
  • Experience in working with industry and community partners as research partners
  • Proven negotiation skills; Experience in contract negotiation, and technology development (asset)
  • Understanding of Intellectual Property and commercialization (asset)
  • Experience managing large- and small-scale projects and associated budgets; Experience in project tracking and management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on partnership development, internal and external relations and networking
  • Strategic and business planning and management
  • Budgeting and allocation of resources
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate is an asset

Campus Location:Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is currently working remotely and is anticipated to move to a hybrid model.

Hiring Range: $76,998 - $81,810
