Job Description

What will you do?

As the successful candidate, you play a key role in delivering operational excellence and ensuring your regional area of responsibility meets performance expectations in delivery safe, reliable and courteous service.

We are looking for someone who will ensure value for money by supporting, in some cases leading, the competitive process for awarding transit management contracts and negotiating multi-year rate agreements for the payment of services based on performance throughout the term of the contract. You are someone who can comfortably respond to sensitive or escalated operational matters and support the communications team with information to support media enquiries related to their portfolio.

You’ll Specifically Have The Opportunity To

You will provide a wide range of contract oversight and operational related duties for your assigned portfolio of service providers, ensuring the services performed reflect BC Transit’s corporate values and objectives.

  • Drive continuous improvement, supporting Operational Excellence and enhancing the overall customer experience both in person and through frequent travel to their locations
  • Regularly monitor and work within the agreement to ensure operating partners deliver on agreed expectations. Supports work with contract renewals and amendments by ensuring due diligence to agreed upon rates. Works to support and recognize working agreements, including Collective Bargaining Agreements;
  • Support the contract bidding process for transit management contracts;
  • Liaise with other BC Transit programs, including Fleet, Safety & Training and finance who interact with transit management companies to address progressive compliance issues that may affect the implementation and delivery of operating agreements;
  • Work in close collaboration with the Government Relations Manager in presenting operational matters and performance results to Local Government Partners as required;
  • Monitor customer feedback provided by operating companies to ensure the positive perception of BC Transit. May respond if escalation is required.

Qualifications

What education will you need to be successful?

Education

We love lifelong Learners and recommend the following mix of education or certifications to be successful in conjunction with relevant experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business or related discipline
  • Five (5) years of related experience in operations and/or contract management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Transit operations experience and familiarity with unionized environment are an asset.
  • Contracted Operations or franchise experience are also an asset.
  • Relationship building, analytical skills, written and verbal communication.
  • Sound project management skills, business acumen an asset.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of public transit operations, particularly performance management and key cost drivers, is preferable.

Additional Information

  • BC Transit is open for candidates to live and work in one of the following operational areas;
  • Victoria/Cowichan
  • Thompson/Kootenay
  • Travel expectation between 35-50%
  • Training will be undertaken at Victoria’s Corporate Office
  • Must have driver’s license in good standing
  • Remote work may be required
  • The position requires the competition of a Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Search
