General Accountability And Summary

Reporting directly to the Regional Director, ESG, this position is responsible for managing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community and indigenous initiatives in British Columbia, including the management of social compliance and reporting commitments. This position will closely liaise with the Vice President, Environment and Social Performance, leadership at the Mount Milligan, Kemess & Endako Mines to ensure that operational and permitting initiatives are undertaken in an effective manner from the community and indigenous relations standpoint.

This position is primarily based out of the Prince George Office, working Monday to Friday.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Implement appropriate monitoring mechanisms to measure effectiveness and demonstrate impact of social performance such as baselines and impact assessments, risk registers, grievance mechanisms, engagement tracking, and management plans.
  • Coordinate the Company’s participation in formal project agreement negotiations with Indigenous groups, and participate in negotiations as required.
  • Collaborate on, and when necessary, lead consultation efforts related to permitting activities undertaken in British Columbia.
  • Ensure that sites in British Columbia comply with, and report on, social commitments, especially those to Indigenous groups, in accordance with all formal agreements, Centerra governance requirements and the international standards
  • Focus on strengthening collaboration with site operational functions to ensure an integrated and consistent Company approach to managing internal and external communications, social performance, and corporate citizenship.
  • Provide internal advice and assistance on social risk, social management performance compliance and associated best practise in British Columbia.
  • Provide internal guidance on local government, community and Indigenous engagement and consultation in British Columbia, and on matters of local protocols and Indigenous norms/customs.
  • Manage, coordinate, provide logistical support and potentially lead visits to Centerra’s BC sites by local government, Indigenous groups and community members.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for Company community activities in British Columbia and work closely with the Managers of the Environment, Human Resources and Supply Chain departments at the Company’s sites in British Columbia, as well as the CGS, to ensure the successful planning and implementation of the Company’s community projects
  • Oversee the development of community related communication materials in British Columbia, working collaboratively with the VP, Environment and Social Performance and Centerra VP, Investor Relations both based in Toronto on all external relations and/or media inquiries and initiatives to raise the profile and reputation of the Company in Canada.
Experience, Qualifications & Education
  • Degree in Environmental, Social Governance (or related), Anthropology or Social Sciences or related fields.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing community engagement and community investment programs.
  • Experience with social compliance and social performance management.
  • Direct work experience with community relations, community development, and/or community investment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local social and community context.
  • Knowledge and experience working with regulatory agencies and Indigenous groups in BC, including implementing project agreements such as Impact Benefit Agreements.
  • Knowledge of relevant social performance management international standards and best practices in the extractives sector.
  • >3 years’ experience leading and motivating direct-reports.
  • Role model for behavioural-based safety, diversity and inclusion and other value based programs and risk assessment
  • Demonstrated planning, organizing, meeting facilitation and event coordination skills.
  • High degree of initiative, self-motivation, accountability, and independent judgment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including active listening, and public speaking.
  • Strong computer aptitude and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Current valid drivers’ license
  • Knowledge of exploration and mining is essential.
