Your Team

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the Purchasing and Construction Coordinator liaises between estimating staff, trades, sites, suppliers, designers, accounting, marketing and sales staff to ensure the accuracy of information for production. The position issues purchase orders to the trades, prepares budgets, paperwork approvals, processing change orders.

Your KeyDeliverables

Production:

  • Assist with review of job budgets and purchase orders in Newstar
  • Review and approve EPO/VPO’s in BuildPro
  • Assist site teams with EPO/VPO issues and/or questions
  • Help manage ISR report in BuildPro, addressing trade contact and/or craft code related matters
  • Other duties as required to assist the Operations Manager and Construction Process Manager
  • Perform job scrub functions in BuildPro

Managing Internal Customers:

  • Maintain accurate up to date job files consisting of budgets, purchase orders, change orders
  • Ensure all extras and change orders are communicated to the field staff, office staff and trades
  • Resolve site problems arising from products in terms of quantity, delivery or specifications

Costing & Purchasing:

  • Maintain current, competitive cost and product information under changing market conditions
  • Prepare preliminary cost comparisons for specification changes to guide management decisions
  • Authorize matching invoices for payment of all purchased items and contractual agreements, in accordance with approved corporate policies
  • Ensure that invoices meet the quoted requirements, quantities, and prices, and are properly signed off by Site Manager

Managing External Relationships:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with specific vendors assigned to each project and review new projects and vendors to identify opportunities for improved quality and cost effectiveness
  • Promote a professional business relationship with trades and suppliers
  • Monitor vendor performance to expected results and initiate corrective action and change process, when required
  • Maintain and foster open and knowledgeable communication with vendors
  • Expand Vendor List by speaking with new trades, filing company information and setting up meetings

Internal Reporting:

  • Liaise between estimating staff, trades, suppliers, designers, accounting, marketing and sales staff to ensure the accuracy of information for production

Miscellaneous:

  • Stay current with changes in the industry
  • Review new products and vendors to identify opportunities for improved quality and cost effectiveness for cost analysis and consideration on future projects or specifications

Must Haves

  • 2 - 3 years of residential construction experience, with strong construction process knowledge
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Blueprint Reading, Estimating, Construction Fundamentals and Communication and Negotiation Technology diploma
    would be an asset
  • A sound understanding and technical foundation of various building types, traditional subcontractor work scopes, construction systems and methods, construction specifications, building codes and requirements, construction tendering practices,
    and contract types

Nice to Haves

  • A College or University degree in Engineering or Construction Management is preferred or a Diploma in Building Technology
