The Opportunity

As Production Manager, you will have an opportunity to step into a career and gain direct experience in the food processing industry by leading a high-performance operations team including General Supervisors, Production Supervisors, and hourly employees. This is an exciting opportunity at our flagship pork-production facility at Brandon, where our 2,200 employees proudly produce food for domestic and international markets. This opportunity is designed to provide you with comprehensive food production and leadership experience.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:
  • Develop and support employees through training and coaching, providing clarity in roles and values-consistent feedback
  • Foster and maintain positive union and employee relations environments
  • Perform analytics and identify continuous improvement opportunities through accountability for key plant metrics
  • Support sales and marketing on new and existing product development initiatives
  • Provide guidance and perspective to the Plant Manager and leadership team
  • Participate in, support, and lead special projects (e.g., new equipment purchases, commissioning)
  • Support the development and implementation of exciting new technologies such as: mobility (iPads), smart glasses, and automated visual scheduling tools
  • Contribute to a strong Food Safety and Health & Safety culture in keeping with the Maple Leaf Food Safety Promise

What You Will Bring

We’re looking for people who are passionate about coaching and inspiring others and have experience leading teams to deliver top results. Being able to develop, foster, and influence relationships within the plant team and with external stakeholders is key to success in this role. You are passionate about safety and promote a culture where safety comes first. Your approach is collaborative and empowering, offering a forum where everyone feels comfortable to bring forward new ideas. Having a continuous improvement mindset, the ability to solve problems, and a strong desire to learn will allow you to make an impact. In this fast-paced environment, being adaptable to continuous change is important. We’re committed to disciplined decision making and data plays a big part in this role, which requires comfort with Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Excel and Power BI.
