About Us

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:
  • funding supports for municipalities
  • a system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment
  • protections for new home buyers and required licensing for home builders
  • province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans
  • a comprehensive approach to managing emergencies in the province through the Alberta Emergency Management Agency
  • management of about 2.6 million acres of public land in the province’s three Special Areas
  • independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Our agency also works to ensure vital public services, such as government services and first responders, are available during a crisis.

Role

Reporting to the Manager of Emergency Management Strategic Planning and Legislation, the Policy Analyst is responsible for project management and advanced policy and legislative work related to the Emergency Management framework in Alberta. This includes determining resulting implications for Alberta from emergency and disaster incidents, and establishing strategies to ensure that legislative and policy frameworks are in place to improve public safety for Albertans and communities.

Using your systems-thinking and collaborative network and relationship building skills, you will be responsible for liaising with a wide range of stakeholders and representing the Ministry’s interests on working groups and during interactions with internal and external audiences. Come and be a part of Alberta’s emergency management policy development by conducting research and analysis informing said development; and coordinating and monitoring the approval process of policy and legislative projects. Be in the thick of things by providing assistance to municipalities seeking regional collaboration arrangements for emergency management; and assuming an active role at the Provincial Operations Centre during emergency incidents, as required. Your adaptability and agility will enable you to balance core tasks in the unit with operational requirements.
