The incumbent will act as a resource and provide assistance to professors and students of the School of Justice and Emergency Services. The incumbent facilitates learning of students within the School of Justice and Emergency Services by planning and facilitating the smooth operation of the paramedic lab used by the Paramedic and Paramedic Advanced Care programs. They will acquire and organize inventory, and maintain as appropriate for both Paramedic programs.

The employee is expected to perform duties in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations including, but not limited to, wearing/using protective equipment, devices, and/or clothing. The employee is expected to report to their supervisor any safety concerns, unsafe conditions or acts and any contraventions of the Act or regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, any defects in, or the absence of, protective devices or equipment. The employee is also expected to maintain a safe, clean, organized workspace.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work space.
  • Collaborate with professors regarding equipment and supply needs to support learning activities and labs.
  • Control all inventory to ensure laboratory requests and needs are met throughout the academic year. Determine supply and equipment needs. Analyze quotes and prepare purchase requisitions. Organize and maintain stock and store rooms.
  • Provide assistance as required to staff and students by demonstrating operation of equipment, explaining procedures, and having knowledge of Durham College resources available if staff or students require referral.
  • Act as a technical resource person regarding equipment, supplies, simulator and learning resources.
  • Ensure that equipment, simulators and supplies are in good working condition and ready for use prior to scheduled learning activities/labs.
  • Acquire health and safety information as applicable and ensure current MSDS is readily available and accessible per established procedures.
  • Orientate and delegate assignments to work study students as appropriate.
  • Ensure that equipment, simulators and supplies as disassembled, cleaned and maintained in a secure manner follow use by professors and students.
  • Arrange for maintenance and repair of equipment in the Paramedic labs.
  • Manage inventory. Researches new product information through catalogue and on line searches and obtaining price quotes from sales representatives as required. Completes purchase requisitions and places orders for approved supplies and equipment.
  • All other lab support as related to the Paramedic programs.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a two-year diploma in Paramedic, Nursing or allied healthcare related field.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience related to paramedical/medical practice.
  • Teaching and learning in a lab environment would be beneficial.
  • Critical thinking skills to support decision making and referral of issues to appropriate internal or external individuals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking.
  • Capable of working independently and in a group.
  • Ability to be clear and concise with verbal and written communication skills.
Required Skills

Hourly rate: $29.59 to $36.99

Required Experience

Part-time support opportunity (classification): regular part-time

Hours: up to 24 hours per week, scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
