Job Purpose and Impact

The Paralegal will perform a variety of law related tasks under the direction of the organization’s attorneys. In this role, you will conduct moderately complex legal research, draft legal documents and perform other related duties. This position will recognize the business implications of decisions, develop solutions and support the counseling of clients toward those solutions.

Key Accountabilities
  • Conduct research using traditional and nontraditional data sources with some autonomy to create solutions and mitigate risks.
  • Support lawyers with commercial work including the drafting, review and revision of various commercial agreements, and internal client training in areas such as regulatory and policy compliance and contracting. Gather and integrate stakeholder input and communicate with clients regarding commercial law aspects of transactions and other legal matters. Develop expertise in Cargill’s various businesses and relevant legal trends.
  • Engage with clients and lawyers to support the handling of litigation and regulatory compliance, including gathering, reviewing and assessing information from internal clients to respond to document production requests.
  • Support real estate transactions and filings.
  • Prepare legal forms and templates and legal pleadings (arbitration, litigation, etc.)
  • Coordinate and monitor progress for higher risk cases.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience (legal)
  • Law firm or in-house experience, handling either commercial or real estate transactions or litigation management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years legal experience
  • Relevant experience in agriculture, food or commodities
  • Strong written and administrative skills
  • The ability to communicate in French
  • Strong practice management skills, including process, conflict management and problem solving
