New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About The Role

Schedule: 7 on, 7 off, 11 hour shifts, alternating days and nights

Position Reports To: Mobile Maintenance Supervisor

Position Overview

As an integral part of the New Afton Maintenance team, the Mechanical Labourer provides support to the Maintenance Technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Routine washing of equipment
• Assisting maintenance personnel in keeping equipment clean and ready for servicing
• Monitoring the condition of wash bays both on surface and underground
• General labour duties as required around the maintenance shops both on surface and underground
  
  

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• High mechanical aptitude demonstrated by experience
  
  

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in industrial mechanical shops, cleaning complex equipment and experience with high pressure washing operations and/or have completed the Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician pre-apprenticeship.

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

• Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
• Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
• Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
• Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
  
  

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $57,000 to $65,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
