Intent of the process

A pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.)), various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

  • Graduated recently (within the last 4 years) with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, engineering physics, electrical engineering, or other engineering specialty closely related to the specifications of the position.

Degree equivalency

  • Hands-on experience in materials characterization using TEM, SEM and LOM.
  • Experience with use of software, programing languages such as Python and microscopy data analysis tools such as HyperSpy or Fiji to automate different aspects of microscopy data analysis.
  • Experience in metallography and microscopy sample preparation methods.
  • Experience in leading interdisciplinary research projects.
  • Experience in writing research reports and proposals.

  • Knowledge of materials science.
  • Knowledge of the physics of electron microscopy.
  • Knowledge of materials in nano scale.

  • AQ1 – Publication record in recognized scientific journals.
  • AQ2 - Ability to develop and execute innovative characterization techniques to address scientific challenges or opportunities.
  • AQ3 – Knowledge of and experience with advance energy materials.
  • AQ4 – Knowledge of and experience with carbon materials (such as graphene/graphite, carbon nanotubes, activated carbon).
  • AQ5* – Experience in Specialized Materials characterization (e.g., XRD, FIB, BET, and XRF).
  • AQ6 – Experience in management of scientific workers, such as engineers, professional scientists, technologists, or students.

  • Note: For AQ5: Experience is defined as being substantive, i.e., resulting in contribution to reports, theses, patents, and/or industrial implementation.

Reliability Status security clearance

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
