About the Role:

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Manager of Corporate Communications is a strategic role, operating in a dynamic and diverse environment, that is responsible for the growth of the OEG brand and enhancing the company’s overall reputation. The Manager will develop and execute corporate communications strategies for OEG Inc., a North American Leader in sports and entertainment, retail cannabis and hospitality, focused primarily on two of its core operating divisions: OEG Sports & Entertainment and OEG Retail Cannabis.

  • OEG Sports & Entertainment includes iconic NHL, AHL and WHL franchises, the world’s best entertainment venues and events, ICE District Plaza, the industry-leading Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, and renowned film production company, Dark Castle Entertainment. Hockey is at the heart of OEG’s Sports & Entertainment organization, driven by the iconic 5-time Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers, the 2021 American Hockey League (AHL) Pacific Division Champion Bakersfield Condors and the 2022 WHL Champion Edmonton Oil Kings.
  • OEG Retail Cannabis in OEG Inc.’s fast-growing, multiple award-winning retail cannabis portfolio led by its flagship brand, Tokyo Smoke. Over the past three years, OEGRC has grown Tokyo Smoke into the largest cannabis retailer in Ontario with over 60 franchise and corporate stores and is well positioned for future success in the early stages of an emerging market.

Key Objectives of this Role:

  • Enhance OEG reputation and grow the brand
  • Support Rogers Place operations team
  • Support hockey business
  • Advance the ICE District narrative and support real estate business goals
  • Increase awareness of and engagement with the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation
  • Support key communications objectives for OEG Retail Cannabis

Your Focus in this Role:

  • Works closely with the Director of Corporate Communications and Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Gaming to create, manage and execute proactive communications plans and strategies to enhance OEG’s reputation and improve overall business performance.
  • Delivery of key Corporate Communications functions across the organization including:
    • Key support for cross functional partners and delivery of services to all other departments
    • Prepares corporate communication strategies and products (plans, presentations, media kits, pitches, advisories, statements, releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, briefing notes, media plans, etc.)
    • Prepares or assigns corporate background material and presentations for internal and external audiences
    • Supports internal communications
  • Support for venue communications, including concert announcements and promotion, issues management, and public and media relations for the venue
  • Relationship building and supervision of Live Entertainment media
  • Liaise with tour media representatives
  • Prepares or assists in the creation of corporate messaging, both internal and external, related to Rogers Place operations
  • Development and strategic stewardship of a reimagined ICE District communications plan
  • Identification and execution of opportunities that drive corporate priorities and delivery support of all communication and PR initiatives
  • Co-development and execution of a communication and PR strategy that increases awareness and engagement with the Oilers Foundation
  • Communicates effectively, builds employee relationships, and provides support to all key stakeholders to ensure achievement of OEG goals and objectives
  • Become an extension of the brand internally and externally and cultivate engaging and positive relationships with local, regional, and national media
  • Provide regular updates on strategic initiatives and track against yearly objectives

Education, Experience andSkills:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in brand communications or marketing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications or related discipline, combined with other industry specific training and education, client side or agency side servicing relevant clients
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills combined with an ability to develop clear strategies and convert them into actions
  • Brings innovative thinking and the ability to initiate strategic solutions
  • A track record of helping businesses or brands capture attention in a competitive or noisy marketplace
  • A strong communicator and presenter who can articulate an organization’s vision at all levels internally and externally
  • Superior written and editing ability – must be able to draft and edit key messages, press releases, briefing notes, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of the current and future content distribution landscape and traditional media environment
