The Inventory Data Analyst is a specialist in forest inventory data (ground sample data or geospatial data) and growth and yield modeling. The Analyst plans and performs database management, data compilation and processing, model applications, and the analysis and distribution of forest inventory data. The position devises and conducts analyses to produce outputs (e.g., reports, data sets, estimates, maps, and models) that meet critical information needs. The activities of the Inventory Data Analyst ensure the integrity, accuracy and ease of access to forest inventory data and the application of this data to support natural resource decision-making.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet theeducation, experience and professional designation requirementsas outlined below:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in forestry, or related discipline, with an emphasis on forest biometrics or mensuration and three (3) years of *related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible (within 6 months) for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals (ABCFP).
  • Related Experience must include the following:
  • Experience and proficiency with commercial software used for data management, processing, and analysis such as, but not limited to, statistical packages (e.g., SAS, R), geospatial packages (e.g., ArcGIS, Ecognition), programming languages (e.g., Python, VisualBasic) and databases (e.g., MS Access, Oracle).
  • Experience working with BC forest inventory data (either geospatial data or ground sample data).
  • Experience working with growth and yield models in British Columbia.
  • Experience with scientific & technical writing, presentations and producing recommendations for a senior-level leadership audience such as research reports, technical presentations, executive summaries, concept papers, and/or options papers.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in forestry, or related discipline, with an emphasis on forest biometrics or forest mensuration.
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and leading consultation sessions.
  • Experience leading project teams of technical and/or professional staff and contractors.

Professional Designation: YES - Please include your registration number in your application. You must be registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Professional Forester with the Association of BC Forest Professionals. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the ABCFP. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
