Position Summary

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton (EDE) location, t he Logistics Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating the process of planning, implementing, and controlling cost effective flow and storage of materials and finished goods from point of origin to point of consumption while focusing on continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Recognized as a subject matter expert (SME) on logistics management and trade compliance.
  • Develop, implement and execute logistics sourcing strategies and trade compliance policies, methods, practices and procedures in alignment with business unit leaders.
  • Develop and implement negotiation strategies for logistic services; including, but not limited to all types of inbound and outbound transportation, warehousing, crating/packaging, freight bill auditing, employee travel and company fleet management.
  • Develop, implement and monitor an import/export trade management compliance process instituting corrective action where appropriate.
  • Builds cost models to validate logistics strategies and to understand cost drivers.
  • Works closely with internal stakeholders to establish correct Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  • Develops and is accountable for budget/standard cost for quarterly/annual operating and long range planning.
  • Provide leadership in on-going cost reduction and continuous improvement programs.
  • Provide for the evaluation of supplier quotations utilizing appropriate negotiation and procurement analysis techniques and implementation of proper contracts with emphasis on quality, price and service.
  • Manages shipping schedule and oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Coordinates with Engineering, Project Management and Manufacturing departments for advanced identification of shipments with special requirements for permits, routes and equipment.
  • Identify requirements for proper documentation for customs for shipments outside Canada.
  • Plans, organizes and implements inventory operations and procedures; supervises physical inventory cycle counts.
  • Directs movement of materials from stockroom and receiving area to storage and work areas
  • Maintains inventory integrity by timely and accurate receiving, picking, shipping, and inventory management.
  • Ensures stock room, receiving and shipping areas are organized and clean at all times.
  • Responsible for managing Material Handlers within shipping and receiving.
  • Ensures employees have proper access to the necessary tools to perform their assigned duties and that the tools are routinely inspected and maintained.
  • Create and sustain a safe work environment.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.

Core Competencies Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years logistics and logistics contract negotiation experience, preferably in the electrical/power component industry.
  • Bachelor degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, Operations or related field.
  • Certified Professional in Logistics Management is an advantage
  • Applied knowledge of OSHA, port/export trade compliance requirements and regulations and NAFTA and other trade agreements
  • High level of negotiation skills (tactics, techniques, strategies).
  • Experience with cost analysis and financial management / budget management.
  • Must have a solid understanding of total cost, target cost and the time value of money.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively across multiple cultures and work well in a global Team environment.
  • Ability to solve problems in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to develop effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated capability in managing team activities
  • Strong planning/project management skills

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, steel toes boots, hearing protection, safety harness and respirators) when required.
  • Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders, and all-size extension ladders).
  • Working in a semi-enclosed space occasionally.
  • Working frequently overhead for extended periods of time.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
  • Work overhead for extended periods of time frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force frequently up to 20lbs throughout the shift and occasionally 50lbs.
  • Walking up to 300 feet frequently and standing continuously throughout the shift with short periods of sitting.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer and power tools (some vibrating) for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
  • Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
