Reporting to the Director of Internal Communications and Family and Resident Engagement, this position will further that vision by fostering true engagement with our key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include working with the team to effectively communicate with and engage Extendicare’s team members, residents, patients, clients, and families of those in our care, using new and effective communication tools across various channels. You are a collaborative, strategic, dynamic communicator who will contribute to the overall team success by supporting with, but not limited to employee town halls, the annual national conference, intranet management and copy and internal bulletins.

This role will also support communications with our team members across Canada for our Extendicare, Assist and Esprit divisions, focused on improving communications and increasing team member engagement.

This position will be located at our Corporate Office located in Markham, Ontario but will have flexibility to work from home from time to time. However, due to COVID 19, this position will be working from home until further notice. This position also requires a flexible work schedule, including ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Draft compelling content across a variety of channels for various internal audiences (e.g., employee, resident and family communications).
  • Be an internal champion for a customer-focused approach to communications and actively support special project teams including the annual National Leadership conference, managing logistics, event planning, project planning and more.
  • Support with content and distribution of e-newsletters sent to all employees and all managers.
  • Supports with maintaining Extendicare’s intranet by performing regular maintenance to ensure information and is accurate, up-to-date, and content is posted in a timely fashion.
  • Keep abreast of internal and external issues to support the Director to ensure that respective members of the organization are kept informed of any issues that may have an impact on the business.
  • Coordinate, improve and establish where necessary, internal processes for organizing Public Affairs materials and content.
  • Manages the communications mailboxes to ensure timely responses to inquiries from employees, families, residents, clients and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, English or comparable experience.
  • Familiarity with internal communications, public affairs and event planning.
  • Excellent writing skills with experience writing for a wide range of audiences and a strong attention to detail.
  • Multimedia, video, photography, graphic design software and web content management systems experience – a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS office.
  • Creative, innovative thinker who challenges the status-quo.
  • Customer-focused attitude.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, issue-driven and team-based environment, with a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and succinctly.
  • Ability to quickly shift priorities, manage competing timelines and be relentless in getting the job done with colleagues who care deeply about their work in actually making a difference by helping people live better.
