The Position

The successful candidate will be a member of the Instrumentation Team as an Instrumentation Technician. This team ensures the maintenance and reliability of the equipment and systems at the facility in order to achieve our maintenance and reliability vision. As a member of this team, you will have key job responsibilities both within and outside of your core trade. Our site has a robust reliability program and a growing training and development program that is incorporated into the maintenance progression system. As employees develop, they progress through the various levels within the system until they achieve the top level.

Job responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:
  • Promote and work to the highest level of safety compliance. Living our values that include health, safety & environment, integrity & trust, responsibility & accountability, teamwork and business spirit.
  • Provide technical input of design on new proposed I&C projects. Assist with commissioning, training and spare parts strategies.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and optimize plant process control equipment such as control valves, transmitters, custody transfer and density meters and gas chromatographs.
  • Conduct predictive, preventative and corrective regular maintenance on all instrumentation and controls equipment.
  • Actively support Operational Excellence and Asset Management & Reliability programs.
  • Be an active participant in routine and shutdown/turnaround plant maintenance.
  • Create and manage Management of Change (MOC) work packages, ensuring all completed work adheres to engineering, regulatory and design engineering scope.
  • Provide troubleshooting and problem solving with specific attention to safety, quality and plant production.
  • Create work orders, source parts and capture equipment history in CMMS.
  • Working with control systems such as PLCs, DCSs, SCADA networks, RTUs.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to Operations in locating and diagnosing trouble within Instrumentation systems or equipment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of functional operation of various transmitters, analyzers, control valves etc.
  • Uses testing equipment effectively to check for system leaks and troubleshoot fitting errors.
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks when required to ensure the facility runs smoothly on a day to day basis.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned. Be able to work with all other Trades. Be willing to take lead and manage Contractors on Projects and Turnarounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work orders for both maintenance and turnarounds.
  • Manage work orders and PMs within the CMMS system (Maximo).
  • Able to provide backup support to the Instrumentation Coordinator as required.
  • Potential member of the site Technical Rescue Team.
The successful candidate will be well-organized, energetic, and service oriented with the following qualifications:
  • Minimum requirement is a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician certification.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in similar role within the oil & gas industry.
  • Instrument Technologist or Journeyman Electrical certification considered an asset.
  • Extensive experience in planning and executing planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance for industrial operations.
  • Experience with skid steer, fork-lift and man-lift operation considered an asset
  • Commitment to the health and safety of yourself, team and site helping lead Keyera to the top employer for safety.
  • Tickets that include H2S Alive, WHMIS, First Aid Certificates would be an asset
  • Strong PC skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), Maximo or similar CMMS system.
  • Self-starter who can work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform successfully in a work team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Highly organized reliable individual with attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid drivers license.
Physical Demands / Requirements
  • Physically able to perform all components of the position (i.e. lifting, working at heights, etc.)
  • Able to work in seasonal weather conditions.
  • Must be available to work overtime and callouts as required.
