Position Scope:
In this role the incumbent is accountable to the Sr. Manager, HR & Labour Relations and is responsible for overseeing the employee and labour relations activities throughout the Company.
Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day advice, direction and counsel to leadership with respect to interpretation of collective agreements and employee relation matters of assigned client groups
  • Support field operations on day-to-day labour and employee relations issues.
  • Provide consultation and advice to assigned client groups on employee relations matters outside of the Acheson location.
  • Provide coaching training and mentoring leadership within assigned client groups to effectively resolve their own human resources issues.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal laws and regulations relating to labour relations, employment standards, human rights and privacy legislation.
Union/management relationships (i.e. resolve labour relations issues, assist with collective bargaining, etc.)
  • Participate in building strong union/management relationships, including promoting a progressive labour relations framework.
  • Lead in the grievance processes and participate in the arbitration processes.
  • Assist with collective bargaining; this includes preparation, research and attending negotiations for all collective bargaining throughout the Company.
Provide recommendations and input on Human Resources initiatives and programs
  • Provide recommendations and input to Human Resources initiatives and programs related to compensation, recruiting, union/management and employee/management relations and communication.
Facilitate conflict resolution procedures for assigned client groups
  • Investigate and resolve complex and sensitive employee relations issues for assigned client groups.
Provide project and bid labour force planning support
  • Participate in the estimating, contracts and bid processes by providing advice and recommendations pertaining to provisions within the collective agreements.
  • Support field operations with labour force demobilization at the completion of projects (i.e. oversee transfers, temporary layoffs and terminations).
Ad hoc reporting and other duties, as required and assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution, within a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • CPHR designation or progress towards obtaining.
  • Minimum six years practical Generalist experience in a Human Resources role.
  • Labour relations experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the construction, mining and/or oil and gas industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the full spectrum of human resources theories and practices.
  • Ability to effectively influence managers and employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining, collective agreement administration and union/ management relations.
