DMC is currently looking for a Human Resources Generalistto join our HR team in Val Caron (Sudbury, Ontario). The Human Resources Generalist is the go-to resource for employees and people leaders for all human resources related matters. The incumbent will support multiple client groups in the areas of employee relations, workforce planning, performance management, benefits, leaves, policy compliance and administration of employee changes with a strong focus on talent acquisition.

This position is well suited for someone who thrives on challenges, who enjoys working in a fast paced highly dynamic work environment and who has a keen sense of urgency, solid follow up skills and who can adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Key Accountabilities

Includes but is not limited to:

  • Acts as first point of contact for assigned client group responding to inquiries, processing employee changes, and handling concerns in a timely manner
  • Sources top candidates while managing the full-cycle recruitment process for hourly and salaried roles including creating job descriptions, sourcing, pre-screening, interviewing, verifying references, preparing offers and conducting onboarding
  • Obtains approvals, prepares documentation and executes transactions for transfers, wage increases, promotions, leaves, terminations, etc. while advising payroll and updating HRIS system accordingly
  • Provides guidance, direction and advice on employment related issues across all HR disciplines including the interpretation and application of legislation, corporate policies and HR programs and processes, ensuring compliance and consistent application
  • Counsel and support managers on complex and diverse employee relations issues (i.e. performance management, attendance management, disability management, employee exits), including compiling and preparing evidence to support appropriate recommendations
  • Investigates, manages and mitigates potential risk with employee related issues
  • Researches, analyzes, plans and executes a variety of HR projects
  • Other responsibilities and ad-hoc duties as assigned

Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Human Resource Generalist role with at least 1 year recruiting
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Profession) designation would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Human Resources practices and principles, as well as all applicable legislation, including but not limited to, Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and analytical ability to effectively source and select top talent
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Solid critical thinking skills and resourcefulness
  • Excellent organizational, follow-through and workload planning skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities while adhering to either hard or soft deadlines
  • Effective, clear and precise verbal and written communication skills
  • Independent, self-motivated and able to take the initiative to liaise with other departments and/or external sources
  • Strong team player, customer service orientated with great relationship building skills
  • Effective problem-solving abilities in a fast paced, constantly changing environment
  • Intermediate computer skills with the Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS experience
  • Experience working within the Mining, Heavy Construction or Engineering sectors is an asset
